Critics on the conservative side and dedicated supporters of the “Make America Great Again” movement have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the disclosure of records connected to the Jeffrey Epstein case by the White House. On Thursday, certain influential figures on right-wing social media were granted exclusive access to what was claimed as declassified documents. These individuals subsequently shared information that had been widely known and publicly available for several years.
Last Thursday, at the instruction of Attorney General Pamela Bondi, the Justice Department unveiled a collection of documents they called “The Epstein Files: Part I“. These documents were distributed in an unusual manner through a group of conservative social media influencers, including Mike Cernovich, Liz Wheeler, Jack Posobiec, Rogan O’Handley (also known as DC Draino), and Chaya Raichik, the creator of Libs of TikTok. These individuals were seen exiting the White House with folders, which they claimed contained the initial release of the Epstein files.
Based on numerous news accounts, the collection of papers contained flight logs from Epstein’s personal aircraft, which have been part of various court proceedings before. Additionally, they included a heavily censored photocopy of an address book that is said to belong to Epstein and his close associate Ghislaine Maxwell. This address book has been mentioned in media reports for quite some time.
Furthermore, the Justice Department made public a heavily censored record of masseuses, accompanied by an inventory outlining approximately 150 pieces of evidence, including explicit photographs, massage tables, sex paraphernalia, and other items. It remained uncertain whether this list pertained to the Epstein or Maxwell case, or another ongoing investigation.
The response among notable Trump supporters on social media towards the document disclosure was immediate and harsh, filled with heavy criticism directed at the conservative figures implicated in it – however, most of the scorn was aimed at Bondi.
Jeremy Hambly, also known as The Quartering, a well-known right-wing YouTube commentator, stated that it’s ridiculous for influencers to have access to the Epstein Files. According to him, these documents should be made public all at once, not used for private gain by certain individuals.
In a different tweet, The Quartering expressed, “Last night on Fox news, Pam Bondi declared her office would reveal ‘new’ Epstein flight logs, names, and details. He stated, ‘It’s truly disturbing what that man did.’ He implied that she was already aware of the contents in the binders. He suggested that she deceived the American public. He urged her to step down.
Political activist Laura Loomer, known for her right-wing views, wasn’t shy about expressing her opinion on the questionable rollout of the Epstein files. She even urged Bondi to step down, stating that the American public cannot rely on the authenticity of the released documents. According to her post on X, she feels the files were disseminated in a sloppy fashion by paid, partisan social media influencers who organized the binders for us. In Loomer’s view, she can’t place trust in anything found within the binders.
Loomer criticized those influencers who got hold of the documents, remarking in another tweet, “Many influencers posed with the folder, used the term ‘exclusive’ and then stayed offline for extended periods. This behavior is known as gatekeeping.
On a series of tweets sent out on Thursday, Loomer expressed, “It’s high time for thorough scrutiny in Trump’s administration. The international community is chuckling at our nation right now, and if you claim otherwise, you’re either deceiving yourself or among those who received the briefing documents. Frankly, this degree of incompetence is astonishing.
Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports and a supporter of Donald Trump during the previous election, voiced his discontent on Twitter regarding the Epstein files and the administration in general. His tweet read: “It’s only fair that these questions are addressed today. Why is the release of the Epstein list always chaotic? What purpose does it serve to expel illegal immigrants and criminals while allowing the Tate brothers to find refuge here? Why is Cryptocurrency struggling if Trump is considered its king? When will Tesla’s stock drop significantly enough for Elon Musk to return to work?
Kevin Sorbo, an actor, expressed his discontentment over the released document, stating via Twitter, “Today, nothing fresh was unveiled. I guess transparency in government isn’t what it seems.” In a subsequent tweet, Sorbo voiced his anger, asserting that the government exploited trafficked children for publicity, which he deemed reprehensible. He demanded the release of the files without delay.
Among the elected representatives, Florida’s Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) expressed strong criticism, stating on X that the rollout was “extremely disappointing.” She further emphasized, “Please provide us with the information we have requested!
On Thursday, Raheem Kassem, a former editor at Breitbart, revealed an insider account in The National Pulse about the events surrounding the release of the Epstein documents. One of Kassem’s sources referred to this situation as a “chaotic mess.” In his article, Kassem notes that “One interesting point from today is that President Donald J. Trump was actually present in a room with binders containing Epstein’s flight and call logs. One of these pages even had President Trump’s name on it, as he was listed in Epstein’s phone book.
As a follower, I must say this isn’t groundbreaking news, but it sure is awkward for the White House. The truth is, most people there probably didn’t even catch a glimpse of the documents given to social media influencers who thought they were just attending routine policy discussions today.
I’ve noticed that Attorney General Pam Bondi and her team have been directly criticized in at least six conversations I had today. They didn’t inform either the influencers present or White House staff about their plans to distribute information booklets, which contained mostly old information. This has left both the administration and the public disappointed.”
“Today, in several discussions, Attorney General Pam Bondi and her team have been openly criticized due to not warning either the influencers or White House staff about their decision to distribute binders with repetitive information. This move has left both the administration and the public feeling let down.
On Thursday, it appears that Bondi, possibly responding to criticism regarding the document release, published a letter she had written to the newly appointed FBI Director Kash Patel about topic X. In the letter, she hinted at the discovery of additional records. By Friday morning, Bondi demanded that the FBI provide her with “the complete and unredacted Epstein files” and instructed the new bureau chief to immediately investigate why her order for the FBI to release all documents was not complied with.
On platform X, Patel pledged that the FBI would deliver all relevant documents concerning the Epstein case to the Department of Justice.
