As a dedicated follower of Indian cinema, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel to one of the most unique and captivating films ever made – Tumbbad 2! Having grown up with tales of mythical creatures and ancient folklore, this film resonated deeply with me. The re-release of the first part was a treat, but the announcement of the sequel has sent shivers down my spine.
2018’s chilling horror drama “Tumbbad” made a comeback in theaters on September 13, 2024. Lead actor Sohum Shah was part of this critically acclaimed film that garnered massive praise upon its debut and has since grown in popularity through social media platforms. With anticipation building for the re-release, Shah unveiled plans for a follow-up titled “Tumbbad 2” and hinted at the ominous phrase ‘Pralay Aayega.’
On September 14, 2024, Sohum Shah posted an Instagram video announcing Tumbbad 2. In the brief clip, Pandurang Rao, Vinayak’s son, is depicted weeping. A voiceover can be heard in the background stating, “Time’s wheel turns round, what has ceased will return again…this door shall open once more.
After hearing this, Pandurang inquires if Hastar will join as well. The video concludes with the phrase, “Catastrophe is Coming.” The caption reads, “#TUMBBAD2. Catastrophe Will Come.

Enthusiasts couldn’t contain their enthusiasm and voiced it through the comments on the post. One individual exclaimed, “Tumbbad is a movie to cherish for a lifetime, I can hardly wait for TUMBBAD 2 SOHUM SIR; this is authentic Indian cinema at its finest. A true masterpiece.
One person expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming storyline with “I can’t wait for it, sir!”, while another shared anticipation for a future film titled “Tumbbad 2” by saying “This could be one of the best Indian films ever made! I can’t wait to see it.” Additionally, several users showed their excitement with red heart and fire emojis.
In the opening segment, Tumbbad is helmed by director Rahi Anil Barve, working alongside co-director Adesh Prasad. This intriguing production is brought to life by Sohum Shah, Aanand L Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah, who all play key roles in its creation.
Based on data from TopMob’s box office analysis, the film amassed nearly 15 million rupees during its first day back in theaters, which is three times more than the initial earnings it made during its initial release.
In 2021, Sohum Shah revealed his intentions for a Tumbbad sequel during an exclusive chat with TopMob. He stated, “Absolutely, I’d like to create Tumbbad 2, as part one has garnered much love.” He further mentioned, “Either a prequel or sequel could be in the works next, as the world and characters are quite expansive.
