Tumbbad director Rahi Anil Barve clarifies he's not directing sequel; shares plans to continue his own trilogy in 2025

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with a keen eye for emerging talent and a deep appreciation for artistic vision, I must say that Rahi Anil Barve is a name to watch out for in the world of Indian cinema. His tenacity and perseverance in bringing Tumbbad to life are truly commendable, and it’s clear that he has a unique storytelling prowess that sets him apart from others in the industry.

Despite facing numerous obstacles, director Rahi Anil Barve successfully brought the folk horror film “Tumbbad” to the big screen in 2018. After becoming a financial success and earning a cult following, it was hailed as one of the best films in Indian cinema. As producers Sohum Shah and Aanand L. Rai prepare to move forward with “Tumbbad 2”, the filmmaker recently shared on social media that he won’t be directing the sequel.

On his social media account, Rahi Anil Barve discussed a grand movie series (Tumbbad, Pahadpangira, and Pakshitirtha) that he’s been planning out. The first installment was a significant hit at the box office, and he intends to begin filming Pahadpangira in March 2025. In his post, he also expressed well wishes for Sohum and Aadesh on Tumbbad 2, mentioning that after completing his current projects like Gulkanda Tales and Rakt Bramhand: The Bloody Kingdom, he will move onto the second part of this trilogy.

In his message, he mentioned that for several decades, he has been developing a complex trilogy with various producers coming and going. The first part delves into the ruthless nature of patriarchy, offering a more personal and darker take on father, son, and the holy spirit. The second part explores the rise of feminism and introduces Satipratha-Pahadpangira, who is considered even holier than holy. Lastly, he revealed that the end of this trilogy will be Pakshitirtha. For now, that’s all he has to share.

Rahi continued, “I extend my best wishes to Sohum and Aadesh for Tumbbad II. I am certain it will be a great hit. After wrapping up Gulkanda Tales and Raktabramhand by the end of this year, I intend to commence the production of Pahadpangira in March 2025.
