As a music enthusiast who has traversed countless genres and eras, I must say that the Jameson Distilled Sounds series has been an absolute delight for my ears! Having had the privilege of experiencing various musical landscapes around the globe, I can attest to the fact that this collaboration is truly a testament to the boundless potential of music when diverse talents come together.
This year, I found myself among eleven other talented musicians at the Jameson Sound Distillery headed by Anderson .Paak. We came together to enhance our musical arsenals through workshops, shows, and discussions, all of which we collaborated on with our assigned partners. Since then, we’ve melded our distinct sounds and styles to release fresh tracks in the brand’s exclusive live sessions on YouTube.
In Jameson’s online series debut, singer Ian Hooper and producer Branko showcased a blend of two unique genres in their track “Go Back,” which seamlessly merges indie and deep house tunes. Drawing inspiration from Lisbon’s vibrant underground music culture, the song offers an enticing mix of brooding electronic rhythms and Hooper’s rich vocals, making it ideal background music for leisurely summer afternoons.
Unlike our initial joint effort, Kaiit and Claudia embarked on an exciting venture this time around, blending their two powerhouse vocal styles for a harmonious fusion. Finding common ground, the track “Draw Me” exudes a jazzy ambiance that beautifully marries Claudia’s pop inflection with Kaiit’s soulful charm. Aoife Nessa Frances and Freak Slug, on the other hand, decided to display their guitar and vocal prowess harmoniously in the song “Bunny.” The duo strums a soothing lullaby-esque melody that weaves together lyrics of love, heartache, and yearning. As a fan, I can’t wait to see what other magical collaborations these artists have in store!
Continuing the momentum, L’Rain and Lady Donli presented their collaboration titled “Not Your Mate.” As implied by its name, this track exudes a bold, unyielding vibe bolstered by authentic African rhythms. In a lively performance, it symbolizes the conclusion of brat summer and the start of a “Not Your Mate” autumn season. Kicking off the series, Jameson introduced its first rap-infused track, “Change.” The song commences with soothing vocals by Shekhinah, gradually morphing into a powerful anthem featuring India’s Seedhe Maut.
