In contrast, the final episode of season two for “The Last of Us” attracted fewer viewers during its initial broadcast compared to both the season opener in March and the finale from the previous season in 2023.
The initial broadcast of the final episode of the season attracted 3.7 million viewers on HBO and Max, a decrease from the 5.3 million viewers who tuned in for the premiere back in April. Moreover, this number falls significantly short of the viewership of 8.2 million people who watched the end of the first season in February 2023.
The debut of the final episode on HBO and Max pulled in 3.7 million viewers during its premiere, which is less than the 5.3 million who watched the opening episode in April. Additionally, it’s far from the 8.2 million viewers that tuned in for the conclusion of the first season in February 2023.
The lower ratings for the May 25 episode might be explained by it being premiered during Memorial Day weekend, when television viewership tends to be below average. HBO points out that the second season has been watched by a total of 37 million viewers worldwide across all platforms. It’s important to note that “worldwide” refers to viewers from around the globe. The first season attracted 32 million U.S. viewers alone, while HBO hasn’t yet disclosed the current season’s viewership figures for the United States specifically.
Other ratings items:
For the first time, Fox Sports drew a significant crowd for their broadcast of the Indianapolis 500. The 109th running of the race attracted an average of 7.05 million viewers, which is the highest viewership for the Indy 500 since 2008 (it’s important to note that out-of-home viewing wasn’t factored into Nielsen’s ratings until 2020). Compared to last year, the audience grew by 40%. The peak viewership was recorded between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday with a total of 8.4 million viewers.
This year, Fox is partnered with IndyCar, an association that was formerly connected with NBC Sports for a significant period of time.
In simple terms, during its first seven days, the seventh season premiere of “The Chi” was watched by 2 million viewers across all platforms. Showtime declared this to be their most-streamed premiere ever, barely surpassing the viewership of the season 6B opener from May 2024. Remarkably, “The Chi” has managed to break premiere viewing records in each of its last three episodes, a feat that is quite unusual for a show with as much history behind it.
