TV Ratings: ’The Rookie’ Snags Season High as ABC’s Tuesday Momentum Continues (Exclusive)

On March 25th, the ABC series “The Rookie” attracted its biggest viewership this season, and indeed one of the largest audiences in several seasons.

The drama series reached record-breaking heights in terms of overall viewers (8.25 million) and viewers aged 18 to 49 (1.67 rating, equivalent to approximately 2.24 million individuals within that age group), taking into account three days of viewing across various platforms. Approximately 43% of the total viewership (3.57 million people) and over 70% of the show’s rating among the 18-49 demographic (1.19) were attributed to streaming.

The drama series peaked during its run, attracting a total of 8.25 million viewers and a 1.67 rating in the 18-49 age bracket (which is equivalent to around 2.24 million people in that demographic). This was calculated over three days of cross-platform viewing. About 3.57 million viewers, or 43% of the overall audience, and more than 70% of the show’s rating among the 18-49 demographic (1.19), were due to streaming.

In the last three days since January 2023, The Rookie had attracted a record-breaking 8.25 million viewers during its fifth season, making it the series’ most-watched episode since then. Moreover, the show’s rating among viewers aged 18 to 49 was at its highest point since the second season’s final episode before the penultimate episode in May 2020.

In the March 25 broadcast, entitled “Speed,” John (Nathan Fillion) and Celina (Lisseth Chavez) found themselves in a harrowing hostage predicament, while Tim (Eric Winter) questioned Lucy’s (Melissa O’Neil) judgement calls.

This season, the peak ratings for “The Rookie” have maintained ABC’s impressive performance on Tuesday evenings, marking a significant increase from the 2023-24 season. Driving this growth is the standout first-year series, “High Potential,” which has boosted all three of the network’s dramas during their Tuesday broadcasts. After five weeks of combined viewing across multiple platforms, each of these dramas is averaging over 10 million viewers. Specifically, “High Potential” attracts 15.31 million viewers, followed by “The Rookie” with 11.35 million and “Will Trent” with 10.91 million. Additionally, “Dancing With the Stars” had a successful run on Tuesdays last fall, experiencing year-over-year improvements and concluding with its most-watched finale since November 2019.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that “The Rookie” has seen an impressive boost in its linear ratings ever since it shifted to the 9 p.m. ET/PT time slot back in mid-February. Over the past five episodes, it’s been averaging an impressive 3.34 million viewers on the same day, marking a significant 11% increase compared to its previous average at the 10 p.m. slot during the earlier part of the season. I can’t wait to see where this momentum takes our favorite show!
