This week, actors from the Twilight series attended the Denver Fan Expo, and Ebaster was present for the occasion. At one point during the event, a panel focused on the Twilight cast members who shared stories about filming the movie. Among the topics they talked about was the debated scene where Jacob Black imprinted upon Renesmee as an infant.
In the concluding movie of the Twilight series, Jacob and his wolf pack perceived Bella’s vampire child as a threat to their community and the world at large. Yet, Jacob fiercely protected them, taking an unprecedented step by imprinting on Bella’s newborn. This action stirred much debate among fans, who found it questionable from various perspectives.
It’s been revealed that Peter Facinelli, portraying Carlisle Cullen, the head of the Cullen family, shares the audience’s feelings regarding Jacob imprinting on a baby. He expressed his thoughts about a similar scenario involving a werewolf bonding with someone within his household.
“I’d have a no imprinting allowed sign [in the compound].”
Jackson Rathbone, the actor portraying vampire character Jasper Hale, expressed a more severe disapproval towards the concept of imprinting.
“I would kill a werewolf if he imprinted on my daughter.”
What This Means For The Twilight Saga
There Is No Way Future Twilight Movies Can Repeat This
It’s evident that the actors in Twilight concur that imprinting poses problems at the very least. Given the speculations about a Twilight streaming series and the upcoming adaptation of Midnight Sun from Edward’s perspective, it seems unlikely that we will witness imprinting again in future Twilight projects.
Given the controversy surrounding Jacob’s imprinting in light of recent criticism, if either of these proposed projects should ever reach the points described in the final Twilight book, they would need to address or remove this concept altogether, or offer a more convincing rationale for its existence. Failing to do so might result in similar criticisms re-emerging in these new narratives.
Our Take On Twilight Cast’s Response To Imprinting Controversy
The Imprinting Is Creepy. But Misunderstood
It’s crucial to recall that Jacob didn’t consciously form an imprint on Renesmee; in the world of Twilight, imprinting is an involuntary and sudden process that occurs without prior warning, over which the individual has no control. Contrary to popular belief among fans, imprinting isn’t solely about romantic connections but represents a deep bond between the imprinter and the imprinted.
Rather than linking, a shapeshifter bonds with another individual, taking on the role of guardian. However, in “The Twilight Saga,” the portrayal of Jacob and Renesmee becoming romantically involved as she grew older created an unsettling impression. It’s little wonder that both the cast and fans found this aspect troubling.
