As a long-time fan of Zack Snyder’s visually stunning and often thought-provoking works, I am beyond excited for his upcoming adult animated series, “Twilight of the Gods.” Having grown up on Norse mythology tales, I can’t help but feel that this project is a dream come true for me.
A contentious filmmaker is set to introduce fresh tales as he readies an upcoming mature animated series, which has recently been announced at Netflix’s Geeked Week.
Here’s a glance at the eagerly awaited series; the streaming platform revealed a preview, offering fans of Snyder a sneak peek into events happening later in the week. Take a look at the video snippet provided here.
In the making by The Stone Quarry and Xilam Animation, and under the creative direction of Zack Snyder, Eric Carrasco, and Jay Oliva, with the enchanting music score by Hans Zimmer, Twilight of the Gods boasts a stellar voice cast. Sylvia Hoeks spearheads this epic series as Sigrid, while Stuart Martin takes on the role of Leif, Pilou Asbæk portrays Thor, Rahul Kohli embodies Egill, Paterson Joseph brings Loki to life, Jamie Clayton becomes The Seid-Kona, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen plays Hervor, Kristofer Hivju assumes the character of Andvari, Thea Sofie Loch Næss portrays Thyra, John Noble breathes life into Odin, and Peter Stormare steps into the role of Ulfr, alongside other talented actors.
You can check out the official synopsis for the series below, which teases all manner of adventure, love, redemption, and revenge.
In a legendary realm filled with grand conflicts, remarkable feats, and deep sorrow, King Leif – a mortal ruler – owes his life to Sigrid, an indomitable warrior. Smitten by her valor, Leif and Sigrid fall in love. However, their romantic night is interrupted by the fury of Thor, which propels them, along with a band of crusaders, on a perilous and merciless quest for vengeance. This epic tale weaves together themes of love, loss, and retribution, taking us through the depths of Hell and beyond – traversing fantastical landscapes, brutal battlefields, and wars fought against divine beings and demons.
Twilight of the Gods Will Push the Animation Envelope
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my excitement about “Twilight of the Gods.” This upcoming project will undoubtedly carry on Zack Snyder’s knack for venturing beyond the norm. In a recent conversation, the director of “Man of Steel” and “Rebel Moon” extolled Netflix for granting him the freedom to make this show as unapologetically explicit as he desired, referring to it as “hot.
The Norse gods have consistently ignited my creativity. Stories of Thor, Odin, and their world – a blend of love, redemption, and vengeance – set against an awe-inspiring backdrop, have always fueled my desire to explore further and immerse myself more deeply.
Netflix was extremely accommodating in this project. They gave us the freedom to explore ideas that, in my previous ventures, were often restricted due to their less mainstream nature. In this instance, they showed a keen understanding of the content’s mythology and the audience’s expectations, which made it an exciting journey. To put it simply, it’s a blast! I won’t mince words; it’s incredibly enjoyable to work with characters who are sexually liberated and have no inhibitions whatsoever.
Twilight of the Gods
is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 19, 2024.
