As a huge fan of the original “Twister” film from 1996, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of connection to the new release, “Twisters,” and the relationship between its stars Bill Paxton and Glen Powell. Having grown up in Texas, “Twister” was more than just a movie for me; it was a story that resonated deeply with my community and the people around me.
The new “Twisters” movie has been released in cinemas, and actor Glen Powell has taken to social media to remember the late Bill Paxton with a heartfelt tribute. Paxton, who passed away in 2017, was a prominent cast member in the original “Twister” film from 1996, which featured an ensemble including Helen Hunt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cary Elwes, Alan Ruck, and Jamie Gertz.
I remember back in the summer of ’96 when “Twister” hit the big screens. Now, nearly three decades later, Bill Paxton and the rest of the cast are keeping the “stormy” legacy alive. In a heartfelt tribute on social media (once known as Twitter), Bill Paxton paid homage to his cherished friend and colleague, who tragically passed away.
In honor of Bill Paxton’s legacy, I’d like to raise my hat to him as we unveil Twisters today. A dear friend who found beauty in nature, his footsteps are hard to follow. Filling them is a daunting task, but striving for greatness is what keeps us moving forward.
About few years prior to Paxton’s demise, he teamed up with Powell for the direction of Will Wallace in the Western movie, “Red Wing” (2013). The snapshot Powell posted on social media, as shown below, was captured during this collaboration.
Glen Powell Fondly Remembers Friend & Colleague Bill Paxton
In theaters, Twisters makes its debut with a strong opening week of $10.7 million from domestic preview screenings on Thursday. Although not an official sequel, there’s a powerful emotional bond between franchise leads Bill Paxton and Glen Powell. As an extra treat for fans, James Paxton, Bill’s son, appears in the disaster film directed by Lee Isaac Chung. In conversation with Yahoo Entertainment, Powell shared:
As a big fan of Bill, I can personally attest to the profound impact this movie had on him. His perspective towards life shifted significantly after its release, making it an unforgettable experience for him. Moreover, having his son James Paxton feature in the film and collaborating with him during that sequence added an extra layer of emotional depth. Hearing stories about Bill from those close to him further solidified this connection, creating a bond that words alone struggle to encapsulate.
During the same interview, Powell shared insights about his connection with Paxton and how it added depth to the creation of “Twisters” – making the experience even more significant.
“For me, that makes the experience of watching “Twister” even more significant. As a kid growing up in Texas, this movie held a special place in my heart. It resonated deeply with me, reflecting the community and people I was surrounded by.”
As a long-time movie enthusiast and critic, I’ve seen my fair share of blockbuster films, both good and bad. Based on current predictions, Twisters is expected to rake in an impressive $45 million to $50 million domestically during its opening weekend. That’s quite a feat for a sequel, especially when considering the original film only managed to make half that amount during its debut.
