As a seasoned gamer with memories of my youth filled with the thrill of Half-Life’s groundbreaking gameplay, hearing whispers of new installments in the series has me practically dancing like Gman himself! The thought of revisiting the world of City 17 or venturing into uncharted territories is simply exhilarating.
Half-Life truly embodies its title. Known for being one of the most pioneering game series in history, this initial first-person shooter set in an alien-infested world gave rise to Counter-Strike as a mod and has since remained a cherished creation by Valve.
Even though Half-Life 2 was released an impressive 17 years back, it continues to be hailed as one of the greatest games of all time. However, a trilogy has taken a significant amount of time to materialize.
It seems that Valve’s secretive underground projects may be preparing us for much more than just the game Deadlock. Instead, it looks like we might be in for a two-course meal with two brand new Half-Life games as the main event.
Two new Half-Life games are reportedly in development
For a while now, Valve’s dedicated developers have been tucked away in their labs, following the release of Counter-Strike 2 and a major update for DotA 2, they are now readying themselves for the release of Deadlock, an exciting new project on the horizon.
However, recent rumors suggest that there could be not one but two upcoming Half-Life games, with the highly anticipated Half-Life 3 being one of them.
According to a trusted source known as “Game Follower,” who was previously involved in the Deadlock leak and shares a name reminiscent of Valve’s Gabe Newell, Half-Life 3 is indeed a reality, as suggested in his recent YouTube report discussing the series.
The leaked information suggests that HL3 could be a virtual reality game, and it’s being referred to as HLX. This has led some fans to wonder about the anticipated PC version of the game.
It’s intriguing to note that additional reports are emerging, suggesting that several new Half-Life games might be under development, with at least one of them specifically designed for personal computers.
According to digital journalist Tyler McVicker on YouTube, there are reportedly two new games currently under development at Valve Corporation. One of these projects is allegedly titled HLX, but unlike previous leaks, McVicker states that this game will not be a virtual reality experience, instead it will be designed for traditional flatscreen displays.
Indeed, I can’t help but share some exciting news: McVicker has hinted at a new virtual reality game in the works, scheduled for launch alongside Valve’s premiere headset, the Deckard. As a devoted fan, I can hardly contain my anticipation!
In light of the questionable reliability and past actions of both journalists and leak sources, determining which one is most trustworthy can be challenging. However, creating a Virtual Reality (VR) and Personal Computer (PC) game could potentially be Valve’s most effective strategy.
On Reddit, a notable comment stated, “It seems like this could be the sole solution to please everyone.”
Playing two distinct games offers Valve the opportunity to deliver a complete, standalone single-player storyline for each player, with the possibility of connecting the narratives from one game to another.
Reflecting on how time has passed, it’s difficult not to anticipate the triumph of any fresh Half-Life endeavor. Yet, as my beard starts to silver, I can’t help but yearn for a taste of my youthful days, and a new PC game could certainly bring back those memories from my teenage years.
Earlier speculations about Half-Life 3 have often led to claims that “Source 2 lacks the necessary power.” This dilemma has left developers in a quandary: should they continue developing the engine, opt for alternative engines such as Unreal or Unity, or instead focus on creating new games.
