Oh boy, oh boy! As someone who’s been around the block a few times with classic cars, let me tell you, this 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight is nothing short of a dream come true. I remember back in the day when I was just starting out, I would have given my right arm to get my hands on one of these beauties. And now, here it is, with less than 81 miles since new!
A very scarcely found version of the 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight is about to be sold at auction, with only 86 units ever manufactured, and even fewer (19) being right-hand drive models. This particular piece has remained hidden from public sight since its initial purchase, making it a valuable treasure for collectors. Initially destined for the South African market, this vehicle was kept by an Asian private collector and has barely traveled 81 miles since its debut.
Under the guidance of Rolf Sprenger from Porsche’s Exclusive department, the 911 Turbo S Lightweight was engineered as a road-going counterpart to the car that clinched the 1992 IMSA Supercar Championship. To minimize weight, Porsche stripped off amenities such as air conditioning and soundproofing materials, although buyers had the option to reinstall some of these features. Notable adjustments encompassed glass fiber-reinforced carbon composite doors and trunk lids, lighter glass, and a potent 381 hp engine fortified with larger fuel injectors and a KKK turbocharger.
This recently restored 911 Turbo S Lightweight, coated in Grand Prix White, has just emerged from decades of storage. Notably, it underwent a complete repaint by skilled professionals based in Southern California. Boasting an unusual right-hand drive setup and exceptional condition, this vehicle is projected to sell for up to $1,200,000 USD at RM Sotheby’s forthcoming London auction.
