Umbro and Children of the Discordance Release '90s-Inspired Collaboration

As a seasoned gamer and fashion enthusiast who’s lived through the ’90s, I can’t help but be utterly captivated by this collaboration between Umbro and Children of the Discordance! Growing up, I was a die-hard Manchester United fan, Eric Cantona being my idol. To see his iconic team’s logo reimagined in such a unique way by Hideaki Shikama is simply mind-blowing!

Recently, Umbro has been quite active in the world of sports apparel. On the field, they’ve designed some of the most popular kits for the 2024/25 season. For instance, they created a retro-style home kit for West Ham United and collaborated with Michael B. Jordan to design a unique jersey for Bournemouth.

The Japanese fashion brand Children of the Discordance, founded by Hideaki Shikama in 2011 and recognized for its high-end upcycled garments, has teamed up with Umbro on a seven-piece collection inspired by Umbro’s ’90s designs. Known for repurposing materials from Shikama’s personal collection and vintage pieces from various global sources, this collaboration brings together the sportswear heritage of Umbro with Children of the Discordance’s innovative approach to fashion.

Shikama’s latest line draws significant influence from Umbro’s ’90s football clothing, focusing on teams led by Eric Cantona at Manchester United, whose logo has been creatively revamped to read “Children of Discord”. The collection also highlights split designs for tops and bottoms, blending technical materials, multi-pattern prints, denim, cable knit sweaters, and patchwork patterns.
