Stepping into the realm of modern television, I’m eager to share my thoughts on an exhilarating new crime drama that has left audiences spellbound – MobLand. As a critic, I can attest to the captivating ensemble led by none other than Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren.
In this gripping series, our protagonist, Harry Da Souza, a steady and formidable fixer, is thrust into the limelight as he navigates the complex world of the affluent London crime family, the Harrigans. Amidst the glitz and glamour, they find themselves entangled in a ruthless power struggle with their formidable adversaries, the Stevenson gang.
Each episode delivers a rollercoaster ride of suspense, intrigue, and unexpected twists that will leave you on the edge of your seat!
Besides its gripping plotline, stellar acting crew, and captivating characters, MobLand offers striking visuals. Let’s explore the filming locations that lend a sleek and engaging backdrop to the show.

The Harrigans’ Charming Country Estate
The grand country estate belonging to the Harrigans’ crime family, often utilized for their business dealings and where patriarch Conrad unwinds from his criminal activities by fishing, can be found in Sezincote, Gloucestershire, more precisely known as Waverton House. Despite its appearance that harks back to the 18th century, this captivating English residence was constructed between 1978 and 1980 and lies merely a couple of hours from London. Primarily, Waverton House serves as a venue for equestrian events, live music concerts, and outdoor movie screenings.
In contrast to crime dramas such as “The Gentlemen,” the location manager for “MobLand,” Steve Mortimore, intentionally aimed to create a unique atmosphere. He expressed that they desired an entirely new vibe, avoiding the opulent style of “The Gentlemen” and its expansive mansion setting. Instead, they opted for a home on a lake rather than one by a river as initially scripted. This change was made to contribute to the distinctive tone of their captivating original series.
Harry Da Souza’s London Apartment
As a movie enthusiast, I find myself residing in an exquisite, top-tier London apartment situated on Craven Street, right in the heart of the city. My home base, the Da Souza penthouse, sits grandly atop a seven-story building, just steps away from Charing Cross Station. Filming here was no easy task, but the breathtaking panorama of the Thames more than compensates for it. Mortimore aptly described it as “hard work, but worth it.
Moody’s Gym
In a tense atmosphere where rival crime families are on the brink of conflict over power and supremacy, a neutral venue is essential for their secretive dealings. The unassuming Peacock Gym situated in Canning Town, Newham, East London, becomes the ideal location for these clandestine meetings. In this gym, Harry steps in to facilitate a conversation with Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell), the powerful head of the emerging south London Stevenson gang, who is eager to learn about the fate of his son.
The West End Night Club
In a turn of events, Kevin Harrigan’s (played by Paddy Considine) impulsive son Eddie (Anson Boon), finds himself entangled in severe consequences when he gets into a brawl at a nightclub, leading to the stabbing of another young man and the mysterious disappearance of Richie Stevenson’s own child. The nightclub in question was FOLD, located in Canning Town, East London. Eddie’s reckless night out on the town not only jeopardizes his family’s reputation but also creates turmoil for his grandad Conrad and the Harrigan family business. To handle this escalating conflict between the Harrigans and Stevenson gang, Harry is called upon to restore order.
Kevin Harrigan’s Family Home
The opulent family residence belonging to Kevin Harrigan showcases the immense success and wealth amassed by his growing criminal organization. Situated at 27 Bassett Road in Notting Hill, West London, this grand six-bedroom mansion is valued at several million dollars. Neighboring properties typically fetch around £10 million ($13 million), underscoring the deep-rooted status and financial prosperity of Kevin, his relentless parents, and their business empire.
The Opening Shoot-Out
The thrilling initial sequence of the series ‘MobLand‘ immediately communicates that the Harrigans mean business when dealing with their affairs and keeping their powerful clan content. A situation unfolds where Harry steps in to resolve a dispute between rival gangs in a hotel kitchen, while Conrad indulges in an upscale meal upstairs, although filming occurred at two distinct locations. Mortimore told TimeOut: “We filmed the scene featuring Pierce in The Midland Grand at the St Pancras Hotel. It had a feel reminiscent of ‘The Sopranos‘.
Instead of filming the thrilling action scenes at The Midland Grand due to its kitchen not being suitable, a fish factory in Chalk Farm, London was utilized instead. This location became the stage for the intense confrontations and shoot-outs, adding an element of realism and authenticity to the crime series.
