The entertainment company, Universal Destinations and Experiences, has announced its plans for expansion in the realm of chilling, year-round indoor horror entertainment. Specifically, Chicago, Illinois will be the site of this upcoming expansion in fear factors.
This announcement follows the launch of the inaugural Universal Horror Unleashed, set to open on August 14, 2025, in Las Vegas.
Universal Destinations & Experiences, a division of Comcast NBCUniversal, expressed their excitement about extending their themed entertainment offerings into the Midwest U.S., marking their first attraction in this region. Chicago was chosen for its bustling population and reputation as a popular tourist and entertainment destination.
“We’re thrilled to bring our innovative concept to life in the vibrant city of Chicago,” said Page Thompson, President of New Ventures at Universal Destinations & Experiences. He further explained that “Universal Horror Unleashed fulfills our commitment to deliver highly immersive and terrifying horror experiences for fans all year long.
As stated in the announcement, this immersive event promises an array of experiences that range from heart-pounding frights to breathtaking originality, providing a complete dose of terror and excitement.
What to expect at Universal Horror Unleashed
Similar to how Universal has made its mark in the horror genre with timeless masterpieces such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy, it’s also creating a stir at thrilling attractions.
As mentioned by NBC Insider, Universal Horror Unleashed is a year-round haunted house experience that interlinks several Halloween Horror Nights haunted houses through horror-inspired common areas, “chilling cafes,” and various other activities.
At this Las Vegas location, visitors can explore a variety of haunted houses, each with its own unique theme: Universal Monsters, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scarecrow: The Reaping, and Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer.
Beyond the houses, there are four themed and immersive areas offering exclusive live entertainment experiences.
Outside these houses, it seems like a terrifyingly enjoyable adventure!
