Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights 2025 Adds Masquerading Vampires to Its Scare Zones

As summer is drawing to a close, we’re inching ever closer to the chilling excitement of the Spooky Season and the resumption of Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. This legendary event, known for its continuous reinvention, will make an early appearance this season in both Hollywood and Orlando. Expect fresh horror houses alongside fan-loved terrors, ensuring a thrilling night filled with fear.

As a gamer, I don’t need to step foot into any of the designated haunts for Halloween Horror Nights this year to get my scares. Instead, the park will be filled with freestanding Scare Zones, sections that have been decked out in full Halloween theme attire. These zones will provide fans with intense frights in a more flexible format, allowing guests to come and go as they please. This year, there are already some intriguing Scare Zones announced, but Universal just added another one that harks back to a long-standing horror tradition.

Masquerade: Dance with Death joins the HHN 2025 Scare Zones

This week, Universal Studios Orlando revealed on their old platform (previously known as Twitter) that the newest addition to Halloween Horror Nights will be called “Masquerade: Dance with Death“. As you might guess from the title, this Scare Zone is modeled after an extravagant masquerade ball. Performers in ornate costumes and detailed masks will be present. But

This idea is outstanding and carries a rich history within Universal’s horror genre. Notably, a masquerade event played a crucial role in the movie “Van Helsing,” where Dracula (portrayed by Richard Roxburgh) unveiled to Anna (Kate Beckinsale) that she was the lone human amidst a gathering of disguised vampires, using a mirror for the revelation. However, this isn’t the only instance where a masquerade ball has been essential in Universal horror. A full hundred years ago, in 1925, the movie “The Phantom of the Opera” was released by Universal, featuring Lon Chaney as the main character. This production showcased an elaborate masquerade ball that the Phantom graced.

Similar to other Scare Zones at Halloween Horror Nights, the Masquerade area will function independently within the park, without requiring a queue to enter like traditional haunted houses. This allows visitors to walk through at their own pace, come and go as they please, and enjoy the experience knowing that performers won’t physically interact with guests. It provides an opportunity for some additional frights during your visit or a more relaxed way to experience Halloween Horror Nights overall.
