It seems an unexpected figure is joining the Street Fighter world: Daniel Pitout, or Orville Peck, renowned for his country music, previously featured on Broadway in Cabaret. Despite lacking experience in major film roles, Peck has been announced to appear in the live-action adaptation of Capcom’s Street Fighter fighting game series, as per recent reports.
Information about Peck’s character in Street Fighter is still unclear, but some initial rumors suggest he might be portraying Vega, a self-confident Spanish fighter who carries razor-sharp claws and wears a mask. This role seems suitable for Peck, given his background in theater. Interestingly, Peck has recently stunned fans by unmasking himself to reveal he’s the Emcee in Broadway’s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club. Remarkably, both Peck and Vega are characters known for always wearing masks.
What We Know About the Street Fighter Film So Far
It’s Not Much, But It’s Promising
The initial release date for Street Fighter was scheduled for March 20, 2026, however, due to recent updates as of March 2025, the launch date is now undetermined. Details about the movie are scarce since Legendary has yet to disclose anything; nonetheless, there have been whispers about potential cast members for Street Fighter, with Peck speculated to play Vega and the villain M. Bison.
The narrative remains shrouded in enigma for now. It seems probable that it will adhere to the mythology of Street Fighter, which debuted back in 1987. Although the game appears to focus on one-on-one battles at a specific stage, it boasts a deep and evolving narrative as the games progress. If Goggins is cast as M. Bison, this implies that the movie will probably center around other fighters attempting to bring down Shadaloo, M. Bison’s malevolent organization.
Previously, there have been live-action movies based on the popular video game franchise. The first was released in 1994, followed by “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” in 2009. Neither of these films received much praise from the fighting game community or general audience. Despite this, Legendary Entertainment is eager to give it another go, but there seems to be a great deal of expectation to get the movie right.
