As a seasoned horror aficionado with a penchant for all things sci-fi, I must say that the latest trailer for V/H/S/BEYOND has me positively giddy with anticipation. Having traversed the cosmos of fear on countless occasions, I can attest to the fact that the blend of horror and sci-fi genres is akin to a universal language that transcends dimensions.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve gotten a sneak peek at the latest trailer for the original Shudder film, “V/H/S/BEYOND.” As a fan of the renowned horror franchise, V/H/S, I can hardly contain my excitement as we gear up for the seventh installment. As a passionate cinephile, I’ve been hooked on the V/H/S franchise since its debut in 2012. Thanks to Shudder, we’ve seen a new chapter unfold every year, starting with V/H/S/94 in 2021, followed by V/H/S/99, and most recently, V/H/S/85 in 2023. That latter one set a record as the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2023 for both Shudder and AMC+. And now, we’re venturing even further with V/H/S/BEYOND, produced in collaboration with Studio71. Each installment has added something fresh to the series, ranging from chilling found footage, mind-bending Black Mirror-esque thrillers, and gut-wrenching body horror.

Initial feedback on the movie is coming in slowly. Some applauded its innovative take on the found footage genre, with Slash Film giving it an impressive 9/10. They highlighted how blending horror and sci-fi genres has been a successful formula in the past, mentioning hits like John Carpenter’s “The Thing” and Ridley Scott’s “Alien”.
In a similar vein, each filmmaker contributing to this production explored diverse realms within the science fiction genre, providing audiences with a mix of terrifying, bizarre, and downright entertaining experiences. Although it might seem daring, it’s quite debatable that this assembly of stories represents the most potent collection in the chronicles of “V/H/S”.
The V/H/S series has been consistently delivering chills across seven films so far. Some might view the found footage style as limiting or unoriginal, but numerous segments have skillfully adapted this convention to contemporary contexts. Nevertheless, Brian Tallerico from RogerEbert.com raised some concerns about the most recent installment, expressing that:
In “Beyond,” the plot summaries for each segment are particularly captivating, offering fresh perspectives on terrifying stories. Interestingly, these storylines seem to revolve around deformity, either by design or accident. Unfortunately, the delivery sometimes falls short, suggesting that perhaps the entire production could have benefited from additional refinement at some point during its creation.
