Valve’s Deadlock already slated to be better than VALORANT & Overwatch

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen the rise and fall of numerous gaming titans. From the early days of Doom and Quake to the modern era dominated by Overwatch, League of Legends, and Fortnite, I’ve been there, played that. So when I heard about Deadlock, a game being touted as a potential successor to these giants, my curiosity was piqued.

Valve has built a robust track record in creating popular video games. Games like Counter-Strike and Dota are well-known and require little explanation, while titles such as Half-Life and Portal have gained a reputation for being top-notch.

There’s a lot of excitement for their upcoming game, Deadlock, which is expected to be an engaging 6v6 hero shooter similar to Overwatch. Some are already calling Deadlock the challenger to both Overwatch and VALORANT, as those who’ve played it early have had nothing but positive things to say about it.

The Verge faced criticism this week for publishing a preview report on Deadlock that breached an informal agreement and disclosed information about the game being a blend of Overwatch, Team Fortress, and Titanfall. However, we won’t delve deeper into the matter, but it’s worth noting that other reports have lauded Deadlock as a potentially exciting title.

Respected journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau has humorously declared himself as a “god-level player of Deadlock,” yet he’s also shared his lofty expectations for the game, while keeping the specifics under wraps.

Slasher expressed on X, previously known as Twitter, that the atmosphere surrounding the Deadlock beta is being praised as extraordinary, potentially matching or surpassing the acclaim Overwatch and Valorant received during their trial phases. Furthermore, given that IceFrog and Valve are in charge, he anticipates the game to be an immediate success.

One enthusiast shared their experience by saying, “A friend invited me, and I jumped right in without completing the tutorial, despite getting soundly beaten up. Yet, I could already envision myself becoming a fan.” Another player, known as Slasher, has boldly predicted that Deadlock could potentially become “the next major esport sensation, perhaps mirroring the success of VALORANT.”

He noted, “I’m usually reluctant to declare a game as the next big esport, as such predictions often don’t pan out, but I struggle to imagine this one not becoming a major player in the scene.”

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve had the privilege of diving into the closed-door beta of Deadlock, but here’s the catch – it hasn’t been formally unveiled yet. Valve, the mastermind behind this project, is keeping things under wraps for now, choosing not to officially acknowledge their upcoming shooter game. But who knows, they might change their mind soon!
