2024 found me, Varun Dhawan, embracing the joyous role of fatherhood with the arrival of our little girl, Lara. Since then, I’ve been navigating the beautiful chaos of balancing work and parenthood. Recently, you might find me in Baby John. Reflecting on my new journey as a ‘girl dad’, I’ve discovered that fatherhood has profoundly shifted my perspective. It made me realize, “The instant Natasha brought Lara into this world, the very essence of my being questioned: how could I have ever been unkind to my own father?

During a Zoom conversation while discussing Baby John, Varun Dhawan was inquired about his life as a father to a daughter and he replied, “Being a father is different, particularly when a man becomes a dad to a girl. It’s a whole new experience that makes you feel like another person. The lessons your mother taught you as a child start coming back, filling your mind with all those things again.

(There’s something about being a father, especially when a man becomes a father to a girl child. It’s a very unique experience. It shakes you completely, making you realize how much your thinking changes. All the things your mother used to teach you during childhood start coming back to your mind.)

Dhawan went on to say, “Immediately upon Natasha giving birth, I found myself thinking: how could I have ever been unkind to my father? Can anyone speak harshly to their mother, who cared for me for nine months, especially after witnessing what Natasha has done for our newborn.

It’s hard to imagine anyone being unkind towards a mother who carried them for nine long months—more so when you consider the compassionate care that Natasha has shown for my child.

I’ll share my perspective on something extraordinary: Rearing a daughter has been an enlightening journey that’s taught me profound lessons about life and what it means to be a man. The dialogue in my film, “aa ab haath laga ke dikha meri beti ko,” resonates deeply from the core of my heart.
