As a seasoned gamer of the silver screen, having spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of cinema, I must say that the 2024 Venice Film Festival lineup has me positively thrilled! The opportunity to learn directly from masters such as Sigourney Weaver, Peter Weir, Ethan Hawke, and Pupi Avati is nothing short of a dream come true.
For the year 2024, the Venice Film Festival has announced its schedule featuring masterclasses and discussions. Some notable events include conversations with triple Oscar-nominee Sigourney Weaver and Australian filmmaker Peter Weir. In recognition of their lifelong achievements in the film industry, they will be presented with the honorary Golden Lion award at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
In addition to the event, renowned actor-director Ethan Hawke and esteemed Italian filmmaker Pupi Avati will conduct workshops (masterclasses) at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
Venice’s dialogue sessions, jointly conducted with Cartier, feature interviews with Richard Gere, acclaimed Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani from the film “Life is Beautiful,” and renowned French director Claude Lelouch of the movie “A Man and a Woman.”
The masterclasses will take place at the Match Point Arena within the Tennis Club Venezia, which is situated opposite the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido, from August 29th to September 6th. The first session begins with Weaver’s masterclass on Thursday, 29th August at 4:30 pm local time. Weir’s masterclass follows on Sunday, 1st September at 3:30 pm, while Hawke’s is scheduled for 10 am on Monday, 2nd September. Lastly, Avanti’s masterclass will take place at 3:30 pm local time on Friday, 6th September.
On Saturday, August 31st, the conversation program will take place, featuring Piovani speaking at 11 a.m., followed by Leloch at 4:30 p.m. The event continues on Sunday, September 1st, with Gere’s talk scheduled for 10:30 a.m. All the masterclasses and conversations will be broadcast live on the Venice Film Festival’s website, located at www.labiennale.org.
The 81st Venice Film Festival runs Aug. 28 – Sept. 7.
