Venom: The Last Dance Trailer Reveals Marvel Villain Knull

As a lifelong comic book enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Venom since his early appearances in the pages of Marvel Comics, I must say that the latest trailer for “Venom: The Last Dance” has me absolutely thrilled! The introduction of Knull, the God of Symbiotes, is a game-changer and a testament to how far this franchise has come since its humble beginnings.

In the freshly released teaser for “Venom: The Final Dance”, we get a tantalizing glimpse into the thrilling culmination of the Venom saga, and introduce one of Marvel Comics’ most formidable and terrifying new antagonists – Knull, the Deity of Symbiotes. This marks the third installment in the Venom series, with Tom Hardy once again stepping into the role of the Lethal Protector. The film also stars Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, while Stephen Graham reprises his role as Patrick Mulligan, a character who, in the comics, transforms into Toxin – a villain fans had speculated would pose the greatest challenge for Venom.

The newest sneak peek for “Venom: The Last Dance” unveils that the movie will feature the originator of symbiotes, Knull. In this preview, a character portrayed by Juno Temple, who appears to be a scientist, hints that the symbiotes have been arriving on Earth to flee from an enigmatic figure, alluded to as Knull in the trailer. It seems that Venom possesses something Knull desires, as suggested by the previous trailer where it was shown that the symbiotes are waging a massive assault on Earth to obtain whatever Venom holds. Check out the trailer below to get a glimpse of this exciting development.

Knull, a fresh character within the Marvel universe, made his appearance in Venom Vol. 4 #3, which was published in August 2018, approximately two months before the release of the initial Venom film. Co-created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, he was primarily introduced to boost interest for the Venom movie and bolster the standalone comic series. Interestingly, Knull was later revealed as the unnamed deity in Thor: God of Thunder #6 from 2013. This symbiote character, imbued with life, served as the weapon known as the Necrosword. In Jason Aaron’s early Thor comics narrative, Gorr the God Butcher used this very sword, which later formed the foundation for Thor: Love & Thunder.

In the world of comics, Knull is responsible for creating symbiotes and spreading them throughout the cosmos, positioning himself as the core of the Symbiote Hive. More recently, it has been revealed that Knull also plays a role in the Marvel Multiverse, serving under the Celestials to preserve the 616 universe from within instead of being an external force like the Beyonders. In the 2020 comic event “The King in Black,” Knull emerged as the main antagonist, and over the last few years, he’s grown into a significant villain in Marvel Comics, posing a cosmic threat that has clashed not only with Venom but also Thor and the Silver Surfer. In fact, Knull has even taken the life of a Celestial.

Currently, no actor has been officially announced as playing Knull. While a quick glimpse of him in the trailer has sparked fan theories that his appearance at the end of the movie is just a teaser, and he will be implied rather than portrayed as the main antagonist. Instead, the Exolons, an alien species, are shown attacking Venom in various scenes, such as on a plane and in Las Vegas. It’s possible that Knull’s presence could serve as a setup for future Sony Marvel projects, potentially leading to a crossover film featuring characters like Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter. These characters might need to unite to confront an even greater threat. It is not unusual for Sony to reveal the final scenes of their films in trailers, as both The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Venom did the same with their trailers.
