Vicky Krieps, Christian Friedel Join ‘The Idiots’

Distinguished European performers Vicky Krieps, known for her roles in “Corsage” and “Phantom Thread”, and Christian Friedel, recognized for his work in “The Zone of Interest” and “White Lotus”, have signed on to appear in the cast of the upcoming film “The Idiots”. This movie is directed by the talented Polish duo Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, who are best known for their works such as “Woman at War” and “Never Gonna Snow Again”.

Aimee Lou Wood, who co-stars with Friedl in the TV series “White Lotus,” along with Johnny Flynn from “Ripley,” are set to lead this project. The cast also includes Barbara Marten, known for her role in “Dune: Prophecy,” and Rainer Bock, who has acted in “Wonder Woman” and “The White Ribbon.”

This narrative, set in a specific timeframe, offers an exploration into the lives of renowned Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky and his spouse Anna, a period which served as the foundation for Dostoyevsky’s creation of his masterpiece “The Idiot“.

In this story, Wood and Flynn portray Anna and her spouse, who go by the nickname Fiedya while on their honeymoon journey across Western Europe. However, Dostoyevsky’s compulsive gambling habits put their relationship at risk. With Anna’s bravery as his support, they manage to work together on a literary project – the book titled “The Idiot“. Initially, it was met with commercial failure, but over time, it has been acknowledged as a remarkable piece of literature.

Ilya Stewart and Vladimir Zemtsov will soon be creating “The Idiots” under the banners of Hype Studios and Gold Rush Pictures. The production kickoff is scheduled for next month, with distribution of the film handled by The Match Factory for overseas markets.
