Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video actor Triptii Dimri recalls she would ‘go home and cry’ during Laila Majnu; admits not knowing ‘a’ of acting when actress came to Mumbai

As an ardent admirer of Triptii Dimri’s journey, I find her story incredibly inspiring. From a shy girl from Garhwal to sharing the screen with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, her rise is nothing short of phenomenal. It’s mind-boggling to think that there was a time when she didn’t understand the basics of acting, yet here she is, delivering powerhouse performances in hit films like Bad Newz and Qala.

Prior to achieving stardom with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal last year, Triptii Dimri had already been involved in various films. This year, she began by acting alongside Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk in Bad Newz, a film that turned out to be one of the highest-grossing Hindi movies of 2024. Given her performances on the silver screen, it’s surprising to learn that at one point, she was unfamiliar with acting fundamentals. During the making of Laila Majnu, Triptii would return home and weep because she struggled to comprehend what her director or fellow actors were explaining.

Titled “Triptii Dimri’s Upcoming Comic Adventure with Rajkummar Rao: Vicky Vidya Ka Wala Video”, the story revolves around Triptii, who admitted to The Hollywood Reporter India that she was clueless about acting when she left her hometown Garhwal in Uttarakhand for Mumbai. Her goal was simply to do something unique. As a child, she wasn’t academically strong and shared her desire to explore modeling with her parents. Initially hesitant due to her reserved nature, they were concerned about her stepping out of Delhi.

Although her parents weren’t thrilled with her choosing a career in entertainment, she still chose to take a chance. Eventually, she secured a part in the 2017 film, Poster Boys, but found it challenging due to her lack of acting experience. Working with actors like Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Shreyas Talpade was tough for her, as she felt unprepared. In an interview, she admitted that her performance in the movie wasn’t up to par. However, she went on to land the role in Laila Majnu even after being turned down initially.

Following the acquisition of the role, Triptii found herself participating in workshops led by director Sajid Ali and fellow actor Avinash Tiwary. During these sessions, they delved into acting techniques, character backgrounds, and portrayals for the movie. However, Triptii would often appear expressionless, as she was clueless about what they were discussing or their choice of language. “I’d go home feeling dejected, questioning if I was on the right path,” the actress admitted, revealing her inclination to give up due to her inability to comprehend their conversations.
