Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video: Is Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri starrer inspired by Jake Kasdan’s film Sex Tape? Director Raaj has THIS to say

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinematic trends and a rich background in film criticism, I must say that it is refreshing to see Indian cinema branching out and tackling unique themes. The upcoming comedy “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,” directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, seems to be doing just that, with its story seemingly inspired by real-life experiences rather than direct adaptations of Western films.

The trailer for the movie starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, titled “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,” was recently released. Some parts of the internet have suggested that this film might be a loose adaptation of Jake Kasdan’s film, “Sex Tape.” However, in an interview with PTI, director Raaj Shaandilyaa has clarified that there is no element of ‘sex’ in his Hindi comedy production, “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.

Raaj mentioned that one of our writers informed him that in the movie, a video created by a couple becomes extremely popular online. This video is part of the film and unfortunately, they lost the CD due to their carelessness. However, he emphasized that the characters in his story are distinct from those in Sex Tape. In fact, Raaj stated that he hasn’t watched Sex Tape, and it wasn’t a source of inspiration for him. Instead, his inspiration came directly from real life and the people he encountered.

The video titled “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala” was jointly written and directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and it’s being produced under the banners of T-Series, Balaji Motion Pictures, Wakaoo Films, and Kathavachak Films. Apart from Rajkummar and Triptii, this comedy features notable actors like Vijay Raaz, Mallika Sherawat, Mast Ali, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Saharsh Kumar Shukla, Archana Patel, Rakesh Bedi, Tiku Talsania, and Ashwini Kalsekar in significant roles.

In the same conversation, Raaj Shaandilyaa shared that he is currently developing a follow-up to his forthcoming movie, focusing on the early period of the internet. “At the point where our current film concludes, we’ve got a sequel in store, taking place 10-15 years later, once the rise of the internet has occurred. We’ve drafted the storyline for it. I plan to begin production on this movie after completing another project,” he stated.

For those not in the know, Vicky Vidya’s inspiration stemmed from co-writer Yusuf Ali Khan, with the screenplay drafting taking place as early as 2018. Raaj mentioned that he had long desired to collaborate with Rajkummar Rao, but Triptii Dimri was cast as a fresh and intriguing pairing. She was actually signed on before her rise to fame with Animal.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is all set to hit theatres on October 11, 2024.
