Video game news in review: The biggest news from the week of March 21, 2025

This week has been particularly buzzing with video game news, just like any other typical week! There’s an abundance of topics to discuss, from fresh game releases, enticing trailers, to significant anniversaries.

Ashly Burch speaks out regarding AI

Last week, during our session at Pixel Pack, we touched upon this topic and I’d like to revisit it now, considering the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Recently, Ashly Burch shared her thoughts on TikTok regarding the AI version of Aloy that Sony recently unveiled a few weeks ago. This development has raised some concerns about the future direction of our industry for Ashly.

The unrevealed tech demonstration doesn’t incorporate any motion capture performed by Burch or feature her voice, yet it is important to note that Guerilla holds the rights to Aloy as a character. Burch raises valid concerns about the future of the industry in this presentation, and it is recommended to watch it in its entirety.

Dungeons of Hinterberg DLC

Previously, we discussed the release of “Dungeons of Hinterberg” on PlayStation. However, it seems I inadvertently overlooked an important detail – a new DLC, titled “Episode Renaud“, is available for free right now!

In this prequel to the game, you’ll have the chance to explore seven condensed fissures as the enigmatic character Renaud. This story takes place before Luisa enters Hinterberg. You’ll encounter a blend of combat strategies and fresh, entertaining puzzles along the way. It was truly enjoyable to revisit this game once more.

Is GameCube making a comeback?

In a recent submission to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Nintendo refers to a “controller for a game” that could potentially pair with the upcoming Switch 2. This has sparked speculation among fans who believe it might be a GameCube controller, suggesting that GameCube games may soon become available on the Nintendo Switch Online service. If you’re intrigued, you can read more about it at Nintendo Life, and it wouldn’t be surprising if this speculation turns out to be correct.

Releases this week: Assassin’s Creed Shadows

More fuel for the Hollow Knight: Silksong fire

We eagerly catch any bit of information regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong that surfaces. In discussions about upcoming games on ID@Xbox and Xbox Wire, they casually mention it as well. This has led us to speculate if its release might not coincide with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but speculate: Could that recent teaser from Team Cherry be a playful wink to us, the fans, who have been eagerly awaiting news about Hollow Knight: Silksong for what feels like an eternity? With their repeated assurances that the game is indeed on its way, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and marking my calendar for the next Nintendo Direct on April 2. Only then will we know for certain!

Game Informer returning?

On various social media platforms and later on YouTube, there were hints dropped. By the 25th of March, there could be positive updates regarding the comeback of Game Informer in some form, and personally, I’m really looking forward to this development.

God of War’s 20th anniversary

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that in honor of its 20th anniversary on March 22, PlayStation.blog unveiled the Dark Odyssey Collection within God of War: Ragnarok! This is an exciting free update for all game owners like me. It’s purely cosmetic, but let me tell you, it’s quite stylish!

Remember that black and gold Kratos skin from God of War II when you completed the game on God Mode? Well, now we can sport it ourselves! There are also armor sets for characters like Freya and Atreus, plus appearance skins for their weapons and shields. It’s an awesome way to customize my gaming experience!

FBC: Firebreak new gameplay trailer

You’re aware that we’re always ready for whatever discussions Remedy Entertainment has in store. This week, they unveiled a gameplay trailer for their upcoming three-player cooperative first-person shooter game, FBC: Firebreak, scheduled for release this summer. The gameplay appears as unconventional as you’d imagine when playing as one of the elite teams stationed at the Oldest House.

Seriously, you’ll never hear someone scream “Sticky Ricky” with such genuine horror anywhere else.
