It’s been five long years since the final season of “Vikings” aired, and fans of the acclaimed Norse drama have been eagerly waiting for their next Viking fix. While the spin-off series “Vikings: Valhalla” from Netflix provided some satisfaction, it was unfortunately short-lived and canceled by the streaming service last year. Now, Amazon Prime Video is embarking on a new Norse journey, this time outside of the “Vikings” franchise.
Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video has given a green light to the production of “Bloodaxe”, a fresh Norse drama conceived by Michael Hirst, who is also behind “Vikings”. Although there are creative ties with “Vikings”, it will be a separate series that unfolds in a different storyline. Like its predecessor, it will draw inspiration from real-life historical figures and events. Here’s the plot summary provided by Amazon MGM Studios:
Bloodaxe tells an epic tale of historical drama, focusing on Erik Bloodaxe, one of history’s most legendary Viking warriors, and his formidable wife, Gunnhild, the Mother of Kings. Their struggle for the Norwegian throne is marked by fierce adversaries, shifting allegiances, and treacherous betrayals, leaving the land in turmoil. As war approaches and chaos engulfs the kingdom, attracting ruthless Scandinavian rulers and a powerful English monarch, the scene is set for a tumultuous, catastrophic, captivating, and enchantingly magical new Viking saga.
More to come.
