Viola Davis, a highly-regarded actress in the Hollywood scene, expresses her desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as her extensive repertoire suggests that such a casting might not be too far from reality. In her upcoming film, “G20,” set for release on April 10, 2025, on Prime Video, Davis portrays United States President Danielle Sutton. The action-thriller centers around President Sutton safeguarding her family, fellow leaders, and the world when terrorists seize control of the G20 Summit in Cape Town. This role serves as a compelling argument for Marvel to heed Davis’s pitch and perhaps consider casting her as ‘Iron Mania.’
Based on EW’s report, a character in the Amazon MGM Studios’ production calls President Sutton “Captain America.” At the premiere red carpet event, EW asked Academy Award winner Davis if she would consider becoming a superhero in the Marvel universe. Davis replied enthusiastically, “Definitely! I haven’t decided which hero I’d be yet. My daughter is a huge Marvel fan, so I’ve watched most of them multiple times.” She even humorously suggested a few potential roles for herself if she and Marvel were to collaborate, such as ‘Iron Shaniqua’ or ‘Iron Mania.’ Davis’s character in the Amazon production might have single-handedly defeated Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, although perhaps not entirely on her own. However, she is no stranger to portraying strong characters, even in comic book adaptations.
Fans of DC recognize Davis for her portrayal of the ruthless government official Amanda Waller in the 2016 movie “Suicide Squad” and various other DC productions. In these roles, she issues commands to the team and exhibits a cunning ambition with grand schemes, not unlike Thanos. Indeed, it seems that way! Davis is unique among actors as she played this role in both the old and new iterations of the DC film universe. Her approach to acting sets her apart – she immerses herself in each character, transforming into them so convincingly that the audience can’t help but believe these fictional beings are real.
It’s not the case that ‘Iron Mania’ or ‘Iron Shaniqua’ are genuine Marvel characters, but it seems entirely suitable for Davis to join their ranks. Could she portray a villain determined to bring about the downfall of the Avengers? Or perhaps she would introduce herself as a fresh superhero, stepping up as a leader to remind them that the world relies on them, no matter the circumstances. Regardless, given Davis’ impressive EGOT achievements, it’s high time for her to don an iron suit within Marvel’s universe.
Viola Davis in ‘G20’ Proves She Has What It Takes to Be A Marvel Superhero
Everyone harbors a desire to play a superhero, yet only a limited number truly embody the iconic status associated with such roles. Viola Davis might just be one of those exceptional individuals, as her character in G20 seems destined for greatness. In this movie, Danielle Sutton portrays the fearless President of the United States, and it’s a role that Davis not only stars in but also produces. Patricia Riggen directs this film, which boasts an impressive cast that includes Marsai Martin as President Sutton’s daughter, Serena Sutton, Anthony Anderson as First Gentleman Derek Sutton, Ramón Rodríguez, Anthony Starr, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, and others.
