Actor Vishnu Manchu is preparing for the premiere of his upcoming film “Kannappa,” which features Preity Mukhundhan, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Mohanlal, Kajal Agarwal, and numerous other stars. This movie will hit theaters on June 27, 2025, in various Indian languages. Prior to its release, Vishnu Manchu and Akshay Kumar sat down for an interview with TopMob to discuss their upcoming fantasy-action film that incorporates a spiritual theme.
In the interview, Vishnu Manchu was initially questioned about how he came up with the idea to have Akshay Kumar portray Lord Shiva in his film. The star of Dhee explained that when he began writing the script, he only visualized Akshay Kumar as the ideal actor for the role; who among all others most closely resembled Lord Shiva? Indeed, it was Akshay Kumar. His facial features, demeanor, and appearance were what captivated him.

He added, “Many inquired if I was absolutely certain about Mr. Akshay Kumar for the role. I replied that he’s the one man who comes to mind. However, in a spiritual sense, I believe it was Lord Shiva who selected him for this part, not me. All I could do was make the suggestion. I received the approval from Lord Shiva.
In simpler terms, Vishnu stated, “Acting out divine characters isn’t a simple task, especially in the Hindi Film Industry. However, in the southern regions where numerous films about Ramayana, Mahabharata, and other religious themes are made across various languages, it seems to be a matter of destiny to portray certain roles. Just as I was meant to play Kannappa, Akshay Kumar’s role as Lord Shiva was likely blessed by Lord Shiva himself.
In wrapping up his comments, Vishnu Manchu stated that, in the perspective of today’s generation, it is essential to consider Akshay Kumar as the embodiment of Lord Shiva.
Building on Vishnu’s statement, Akshay Kumar expressed his gratitude by saying, “I consider it a tremendous blessing to have been selected for this role. It makes me feel incredibly empowered. Such opportunities aren’t common. To portray Lord Krishna or Lord Shiva; and what’s more, the film is doing well. That’s the key point. I often remind myself that I am one of the luckiest individuals.
On June 27th, 2025, the movie Kannappa will hit the big screens. It’s set to premiere simultaneously with Maa and F1. We’ll see how well Kannappa holds its own against the tough competition it’s up against.
