As an ardent fan of Vivek Oberoi, I have been captivated by his journey in Bollywood, a roller-coaster ride filled with two extremes. Listening to his recent conversation about his struggles with trolling, public humiliation, professional sabotage, and even threats from the underworld, I am left in awe of his resilience and strength.
Vivek Oberoi’s path through Bollywood has been as turbulent as a roller-coaster ride. His career has spanned both peaks and valleys. Lately, the actor shared memories of experiencing online harassment, public embarrassment, and obstacles in his work due to the influence of a certain ‘clique’. He also disclosed receiving threats from criminal circles.
During a recent conversation with ABP Entertainment Live, Vivek Oberoi talked about dealing with a hard phase of his life when he had to shift to business from acting. Addressing the times, the actor opined that one concentrates on the intensity of the bad phase and how long has been one going through it. He mentioned if the intensity is less or short-lived, one heals quickly.
Instead, when an experience is particularly intense and prolonged, recovery can be slow because past pains may re-emerge, making progress difficult. In these trying circumstances, the emphasis was placed on regaining control over one’s life and forging ahead.
The actor elaborated by sharing his own story, saying, “For me personally, the intensity was too much to handle. I endured cyberbullying, public embarrassment, and career undermining. My projects were even taken from me following my signature on them, because the influence of lobbying was extremely powerful.
The situation became so severe that it seemed like the underworld got involved, and I started receiving threats. As a result, the Mumbai police assigned me an armed guard and a bodyguard. The actor explained that things reached such a critical point.
Pondering over it, Vivek conceded that tranquility could vanish entirely under similar circumstances. He disclosed this while acknowledging his personal safety, being under guard, yet expressing constant concern for the wellbeing of his mother, sister, and father.
As an over-the-moon admirer putting it in my own words, here’s how 48-year-old Vivek expressed his feelings: “I find myself constantly fretting, and this anxiety begins to interfere with my work. It becomes tough to maintain focus, which only makes matters worse. If left unchecked, it can lead me down a dark path, and things spiral out of control. Eventually, I realize that I must take charge, clear the decks, and declare, ‘That’s enough! Now, I need to purge this worry from my mind and dedicate myself fully to my work.’
To escape from that state, Vivek shared an experience where his mother took him to a children’s cancer ward at a hospital once. He remembered young kids, around 7-8 years old, bravely fighting cancer under the toughest circumstances. The actor then spoke of the desperation on the parents’ faces as they were willing to go to any lengths to save their child. Yet, their efforts seemed futile because the outcome was not within their control.
As a dedicated follower, I’d like to share my perspective: “My struggles may seem small compared to the trials faced by those children and their parents.” This is what I believe, as I find solace in understanding that my challenges pale in comparison to theirs.
Vivek mentioned that when he walked into the room to greet the children, they were overjoyed. Their smiles spread and the encounter left such an impression on him that he began visiting them frequently. He’d read storybooks to them and eventually created a toy bank for the kids. This sparked a surge of positivity among the children, and the actor even admitted to experiencing personal satisfaction. To wrap it up, Vivek openly expressed how this act of kindness helped him momentarily forget his own discomfort.
Previously, Vivek appeared in Rohit Shetty’s online series titled “Indian Police Force,” where he acted alongside Shilpa Shetty and Sidharth Malhotra.
