Vivek Oberoi-linked real estate developers face ED action in Mumbai; Rs 19 crore assets attached in massive housing scam

In Mumbai, the Enforcement Directorate has temporarily seized assets valued at approximately 196.1 million rupees that are associated with directors, affiliated companies, and others as part of an ongoing investigation into money laundering allegations. The case centers around Karrm developers, a company that has been under scrutiny due to suspected financial misconduct in housing projects targeting lower-middle-income families.

In December 2023, the Bombay High Court expressed disapproval towards the Maharashtra Police over their management of a major housing scam linked to Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who was a business partner in the case. Oberoi had backed and advertised numerous housing projects under the Karrm brand, such as Karrm Residency in Dhasai village, Shahpur, Karrm Panchtatve in Kasagaon, Shahpur, and Karrm Brahmaand at Kelve Road, Palghar. However, these projects, initially marketed as affordable housing options, left over 11,500 buyers in a difficult situation because the promised homes were never provided.

Karrm Infrastructure has established itself as a significant figure in the affordable housing market, catering to a specific group of homebuyers via its Mission 360 program. Yet, government officials claim that the company deceived customers by utilizing fake and forged papers, wrongly depicting agricultural land as non-agricultural in order to attract investments.

As an ardent supporter, I can’t help but feel outraged by the deceit that left innocent investors, who had entrusted their hard-earned savings, in financial ruin due to failed projects. The recent move by the Enforcement Directorate has rekindled hope among the affected homebuyers, who are now calling for tougher penalties against those culpable. They yearn not only for justice but also for a means to recoup their losses from the seized assets associated with this case.

Regardless of the ongoing legal issues, Vivek Oberoi remains dedicated to his acting career. Following a powerful portrayal as the villain Bobby in Lucifer, the actor publicly praised L2: Empuraan, the latest installment featuring Mohanlal which is currently showing in cinemas. On X, the former Twitter platform, Oberoi expressed his thanks for being part of the Lucifer universe and fondly recalled his time working on the original film.

I thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the remarkable adventure known as Lucifer, and playing Bobby was a unique and memorable experience for me. Although I’ve delved into complex characters before, this one stood out due to its distinctiveness. The affection bestowed upon me by people in Kerala was incredibly touching,” he wrote.

L2: Empuraan mentions Oberoi’s character, but he does not have a physical presence in the outing.
