As a seasoned traveler who has traversed the globe in search of unique experiences and hidden gems, I must say that my recent journey to Edinburgh with Tamara Turnbull and Bethany Grace was nothing short of extraordinary. The duo’s passion for championing independent businesses and their knack for discovering the unconventional is truly inspiring.
Previously organizing a string of successful live music concerts in both the U.S. and Algarve, W Hotels’ newest cultural project, W PRESENTS, carries on its global journey – showcasing an eclectic array of up-and-coming and renowned artists that reflect W Hotels unique musical personality.
This year, some revolutionary main performers are scheduled to grace the grounds of various W Hotels in Europe. By doing so, the high-end hotel brand is effectively creating a niche for itself within the music industry, merging hospitality and cultural experiences.
In partnership with W Hotels, TopMob is embarking on a city tour to commemorate the growth of W PRESENTS. The journey begins with W Edinburgh, located in the lively St. James Quarter, as our first stop.
For the debut episode, we tap stylist Tamara Turnbull and photographer Bethany Grace, founders of LUNCH concept store, to spotlight some local hotspots in Edinburgh, Scotland before heading to the city’s anticipated event headlined by Welsh DJ, producer and vocalist Elkka.
Initially, the group enters the 12-story Ribbon Building, an urban symbol situated centrally in the city, and subsequently occupies the WOW Suite, which is essentially a modernized version of the Presidential Suite from the W Hotels chain. Encompassing approximately 1,600 square feet, this suite boasts panoramic vistas of Edinburgh’s skyline. The living space is designed for socializing, offering a sizable dining area and an innovative rock bar influenced by the city’s volcanic origins. Additionally, it includes a walk-in closet, a free-standing bathtub, a personal sauna, and a private balcony.
buff.
The duo kick start their day by heading to buff.’s second, and recently unveiled, St. Ninian’s Manse boutique just outside of Edinburgh’s city center for a manicure and pedicure.
Distinguished by its sleek, simplistic decor, this design-focused nail salon provides an array of services, therapies, and lifestyle goods tailored to suit every visitor’s preferences. They take great pride in providing a unique perspective on self-care and wellness.
Good Vibes
Next stop: Good Vibes.
A quaint, self-reliant music shop that celebrates the golden age of tangible music, it offers an assortment of vinyls and CDs across numerous genres – spanning timeless classics to fresh talent. Nestled in the lively Leith district, it also welcomes the neighborhood with a full calendar of live performances, events, and studio classes held within its premises.
ætla
In their role as pioneers of a shop dedicated to showcasing up-and-coming artists and business owners, this dynamic duo is committed to supporting independent ventures. Their itinerary often leads them to ætla, a distinctive fine jewelry boutique nestled in Stockbridge, where they carefully select pieces for their collection.
Offering a selection of ethically-sourced jewelry from various global locations, particularly emphasizing Scottish artisans, this store stands out by providing an exclusive and mindful choice that deviates from the ordinary jewelry shop experience.
SUSHISAMBA Edinburgh
Upon their return to the base in W Edinburgh, Turnbull and Grace decide to dine at the SUSHISAMBA restaurant located on the 10th floor of the nearby hotel. This eatery offers a breathtaking 360-degree vista of the entire city.
Known for its fusion of Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian cuisines, this modern venue offers an ideal gathering place for dinner and drinks. The dynamic menu, continually updated, showcases SUSHISAMBA classics alongside Edinburgh exclusives, using fresh local Scottish ingredients. Turnbull particularly enjoyed the Edinburgh roll, a signature dish made with lobster, mango-pineapple salsa, and oshinko.
W Lounge
After a brief rest in their room to freshen up, the duo prepared for the evening. Navigating towards the W Lounge, the heart of the hotel’s social scene, they were welcomed by Elkka’s music and the lively atmosphere of the audience. With her renowned sets known for inciting dance, they enjoyed the night’s festivities until late before retiring to their suite for a well-deserved rest.
