‘Walker’ Star Lindsey Morgan Reveals Why She Left the Show (Exclusive)

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I can’t help but relate to Lindsey Morgan‘s journey. Just like how we level up our characters, she leveled up her career, taking on challenging roles and conquering each one with grace. However, just as a game character needs rest to regain strength, so did Lindsey.

Actress Lindsey Morgan, best known for her role as Walker on The CW series, is discussing the reasons behind her departure from the show during its second season.

In this past week’s episode of the “I’ve Never Said This Before” podcast, host Tommy Didario questioned the guest about her exit from the show, a move that was publicized on October 29, 2021. At that point, Morgan revealed she was leaving “Walker” due to personal matters.

In a unique segment shared from their podcast, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the actress disclosed the real reason she stepped away from the character Micki Ramirez.

She explained on the podcast that she suffered from a spinal injury, which impacted both her nervous system and brainstem. This injury led to debilitating anxiety, stress, and an inability to carry out her work duties.

Upon her departure, she expressed in a statement that she had agonizingly chosen to step down and was deeply appreciative for “the privilege to portray Micki,” who was Cordell Walker’s (Jared Padalecki) partner and one of the pioneering female Texas Rangers in the agency.

During her podcast interview, Morgan openly acknowledged that making this particular decision was incredibly challenging for her. She had invested tremendous effort in pursuit of her dream – specifically, landing the leading role on a television series – a goal she ultimately had to relinquish.

Prior to that moment, I had been visualizing and working towards it,” the actress shared. “My ambition was to take on the leading role and advance in my professional path. When Walker came along, I was cast as the lead female – a dream of mine finally realized.

Before joining the show starring Jared Padalecki, Morgan had previously appeared as a recurring character on the series “The 100”, which concluded in February 2020. In April of that year, it was announced that “Walker” would start filming, meaning she would have only about a month’s break before embarking on her next project.

For nearly a decade prior to the recent cancellation of our beloved series, I found myself in a state of uninterrupted work, with scarcely any opportunity for a well-deserved respite.

She expressed gratitude for never stopping her work, stating, “I’ve been incredibly fortunate.” However, upon reflection, she admitted that she had erred by overworking without taking time to rest, much like an athlete who pushes themselves too hard in training but neglects recovery. Her achievements were substantial, yet her personal well-being suffered greatly. She was far from content, as her stress levels were excessively high.

Morgan went on to say, “I believe I didn’t perform well. Reflecting upon it now, my poor performance was due to the immense stress that had taken over both my mind and body. I was in disarray. I couldn’t understand why. With all this weight of responsibility on my shoulders, I felt like I was disappointing everyone – including myself.

Either carry on living a hectic, stressed-out life, working approximately 16 hours daily, four to five days consecutively for months on end, and potentially rely on medication long-term to manage; or opt for a significant lifestyle overhaul aimed at reducing or eliminating stress altogether.

She wasn’t just managing numerous health issues, but she was also coming to terms with the feeling that she had fallen short.

She shared, “I’m someone who consistently strives hard, setting high expectations for myself, and I always aim to never disappoint those close to me.” She confessed, “I felt as though I had disappointed Jared or the show, which was the toughest aspect for me because it still stirs up emotions within me, although I know it’s irrational. I was merely prioritizing my own wellbeing, something that is crucial.
