As a lifelong watch enthusiast who’s spent countless hours submerged in the rich tapestry of timepiece history, the latest collaboration between Rolex and Wallpaper* has me absolutely giddy with excitement! The publication of “Oyster Perpetual Submariner – The Watch That Unlocked The Deep” is not just a book, but a testament to the enduring legacy of one of the most iconic watches ever crafted.
In a surprising twist, the newest unveiling from Rolex isn’t a watch but rather a book – “Oyster Perpetual Submariner – The Watch That Unlocked The Deep,” published in collaboration with Wallpaper*. This is the first officially authorized book chronicling the entire history of the iconic Rolex Submariner, one of the most renowned models by the esteemed watchmaker.
Composed by historian and watch specialist Nicholas Foulkes, the 252-page book delves deeply into the history of the Oyster Perpetual Submariner. Regarding this publication, Arnaud Boetsch, Rolex’s Director of Communication & Image, remarks, “The Submariner, a symbol of diving watches, represents the longstanding relationship between Rolex and underwater exploration. Through its evolution, it has become an iconic timepiece that transcends the marine world, becoming the preferred action watch for various sports and activities beyond the sea.
Starting October 1, the hardcover book priced around $132 USD (equivalent to £100 GBP) will be available in both English and French. From September 16 – 19, a limited number of silk-bound editions are up for pre-order exclusively through Wallpaper*’s online store.
