It’s been reported that Walter C. Scott Jr., a well-known singer and one of the co-founders of the R&B group The Whispers (alongside his identical twin brother Wallace Scott, known as “Scotty”), has sadly passed away. He was 81 years old.
On a tragic note, it is reported that Walter passed away last Thursday following a half-year struggle against cancer, with his beloved family by his side in Northridge, California.
In this new version, I’ve aimed to maintain the same information but present it in a more conversational and engaging manner for easier reading.
The musician gained fame for songs such as “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady” (which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100), “It’s a Love Thing,” “Lady,” “Love is Where You Find It,” and “Love at Its Best.” He collaborated with various record labels, including Soul Train Records, Solar Records, and Capital Records.
Scott, born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1944, relocated to Los Angeles later on. In 1963, along with Wallace, Nicholas Caldwell, Marcus Hutson, and Gordy Harmon, he established the band known as The Whispers. During this time, Walter was called up for military service in the Vietnam War, but he rejoined The Whispers in 1969.
As a gamer, I racked up some impressive achievements in the world of R&B music. I scored an astounding 15 top-10 hits and had two of my eight top-10 albums, “The Whispers” and “Love Is Where You Find It,” reach the number one spot. To top it off, I managed to secure five gold albums and even two platinum ones.
Desirae Lee Benson-Brockington, who worked with The Whispers as a publicist, expressed her sympathies on Facebook. “I was privileged to observe at close range the impact of Walter’s artistic talent, humility, and elegance,” she posted. “His influence on music, culture, and countless hearts will never be erased from memory.” She added, “Walter wasn’t just a performer; he was an integral part of a movement that gifted soulful tunes, harmonious melodies, and enduring love songs to various generations. His legacy will persist in every melody, every lyric, and every fan whose life he touched.
Walter is survived by his wife, Jan, two sons and three grandchildren.
