Alex Garland’s 2024 dystopian thriller, titled “Warfare,” offers a chilling portrayal of potential America’s future. While the film is based on fiction, its narrative draws from co-director Ray Mendoza’s real-life experiences as a former U.S. Navy SEAL. The A24 production, slated for release next month, has already garnered positive feedback from critics who have had an early sneak peek, with nothing but praise for the movie so far.
Drew Taylor from The Wrap describes the movie “Warfare” as being almost overwhelmingly suspenseful. He also notes that it’s a combat film with minimal extra elements. Taylor praises the young cast, particularly Garland and Mendoza, for their outstanding performance together. Furthermore, he recommends experiencing its extraordinary sound mix in the loudest cinema available.
Similarly, Erik David from Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes shares these opinions, labeling “Warfare” as the most intense film of the year so far.
This movie is incredibly engaging as it plunges us into a desperate predicament where soldiers are pinned down in a house under siege […] While it boasts an impressive ensemble cast, the true stars are the soldiers who are fighting tirelessly to save their comrades and escape. I found the film’s original take captivating – it left me spellbound for most of its duration, such is its intensity. I recommend watching it on a large screen with powerful sound for an immersive experience. This one is a gripping adventure!
The action-packed drama titled Warfare centers around a team of Navy SEALs, led by Joseph Quinn, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Michael Gandolfini, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, as they embark on a high-stakes mission in insurgent territory in 2006. This gripping tale is directed and co-written by Garland and Mendoza, and the filming was carried out last year in London.
