As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement when it comes to Warframe: 1999. The announcement of a prequel comic reminds me of the good old days when we used to get comics alongside our favorite games, adding another layer of immersion to the experience.

A few weeks back, I shared insights on the Sea of Conquest comic by Studio Ellipsis. As I noted at the time, it was intriguing to see a modern project backed by something more conventional. And now, it looks like another studio is following suit, as the upcoming Warframe: 1999 expansion will also have a prequel comic released!

Directly obtainable on the Warframe site, this upcoming comic delves into the beginnings of the six Protoframes constituting the Hex Syndicate, the main characters in the expansion. It unveils their backstories as a group of six outsiders, the hardships they endured under the manipulation of renegade scientist Albrecht Entrati, and how these events tie into the broader Warframe universe. The captivating artwork is provided by Warframe enthusiast Karu.

Not only do you receive a 33-page prequel comic, but there’s more! You can also snag the cover as a decoration for your landing area. Plus, free printable 3D miniatures of all Protoframes are being provided so that players can construct and color them at their leisure.

It’s impressive to observe Digital Extremes incorporating a fan artist like Karu, whose contributions have added to the vividness of Warframe’s fandom and given them an opportunity to showcase their art to a broader audience.
