- Challenging tactical combat
- Multiple campaigns that interconnect
- Cute, quirky characters
In Wargroove 2: Pocket Edition, you’ll assume leadership roles for three distinct armies as you navigate through three diverse campaigns. Accompany the scholarly mouse army on their research expedition, assist the pirates on their path to fame, and guide the Heavensong Empire’s military in their rescue mission for Lord Valder.
Wargroove 2: Pocket Edition Features Multiple Campaigns
After a prologue that introduces the mouse-like Faahri, you’ll be free to complete the three campaigns in any order. However, if you’re new to
Wargroove
, you may want to check out the Faahri campaign, Breaking Ground, first, since their combat strategies are the easiest to pick up.
In a charming manner, Lytra, the timid magical mouse, captivates everyone. It’s her self-doubt about her magical abilities that instantly wins hearts.
In the movie “Dark Skies,” you’ll find your heart warming towards siblings Errol and Orla, along with their companion Prince Koji, who transition from enjoying a casual sleepover to embarking on a perilous journey aimed at rescuing Lord Valder, the leader of the undead Felheim Legion. In another adventure, “Rising Tides,” Wulfar, a rogue and the twins’ father, emerges as a significant figure in the Pirate campaign.
Once you finish each of the initial three stories, you’ll unlock the last campaign that wraps up all three plots.
In Wargroove 2, the tactical turn-based battle mechanism is captivating, allowing you to direct each unit once per round. Remember, though, that your enemy also gets a move at the end of their turn, so planning ahead and using strategy is crucial if you want to keep your troops intact. This clever combat system imbues you with a sense of commanding an army on a battlefield, even if it’s a very adorable one.
In each campaign, numerous Commander units are showcased, each possessing unique Groove abilities that inflict substantial damage. To execute one of these Groove abilities, you must first fully charge your Groove gauge, which is at 100%. The Groove gauge accumulates charge as you seize structures, defeat enemies, and engage in battles or counterattacks.
Waiting a few rounds to charge up might be necessary for Groove attacks, but the payoff is definitely worth it as they are incredibly gratifying to release. Orla employs her fiery Fire Groove move to torch a section of tiles, while Lytra uses Melodic Cyclone to fling nearby enemies in a chosen direction. Each Groove ability is unique, and you’ll have a great time experimenting with them.
Additionally, you can wait and let the meter reach 200% to unleash an even stronger attack.
Each Campaign Features Distinct Units
During the prologue, you’ll only have access to the Faahri army’s Duelist, Perforator, and Archyologist units. However, as you progress, you’ll unlock more powerful units and each campaign features different units for you to master. The Faarhi campaign is not without its merits, but it’s the remaining two campaigns that really test your tactical ability.
Right off the bat, Rising Tides presents naval combat units, whereas Dark Skies introduces airborne ones, escalating the strategic depth of both games. The Pirates have a swift transportation boat for their units and snipers capable of striking sea-faring enemies at a distance.
Dark Skies allows you control over units such as the agile Flamingo, capable of soaring above other units, but requiring solid ground for landing, and various airborne units like the Dragon. Navigating sea and air units can pose challenges since not all land-based units are armed to counter them. It’s crucial to keep in mind which units are most effective against specific enemy units as you construct your battle plan.
Where You Send Your Units Matters in Wargroove 2: Pocket Edition
Terrain also plays an important role in the outcome of your attacks. For instance, travelling on stone roads is good for your speed but leaves you unprotected, while travelling on forest tiles offers some protection but slows your unit down.
You have the freedom to either charge at your opponents, risking harm, or move cautiously using protective tiles. Although incorporating terrain elements can be engaging, it would be even more exciting if it had a greater impact on both attacking and defending strategies.
Wargroove 2: Pocket Version is a delightful strategy game offering exciting tactical, turn-based combats. You’ll face formidable and relentless opponent troops, utilize the landscape to your benefit, and make challenging strategic decisions to secure victory. Each faction showcases charming, quirky characters that you’re bound to love!
In a storyline that’s engaging and entertaining, WarGroove 2: Pocket Edition offers a multiplayer option, making it perfect for both seasoned strategy veterans and those just starting out. This game presents an exciting tactical journey for all!
