Warner Bros. Discovery Confirms Max Launch in 7 Asian Markets in November

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for binge-watching shows and movies from various genres, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming launch of Warner Bros. Discovery‘s Max streaming service across Asia! With a rich library spanning iconic brands like HBO, Discovery, DC Universe, Harry Potter, AFN, and Cartoon Network, this platform promises to be a game-changer for the Asian entertainment landscape.

Warner Bros. Discovery has finally announced when their streaming service Max will start operating in several Asian countries. On Tuesday, they declared that the service will become available on November 19 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. WBD mentioned that the platform will be accessible through various plans, including a more affordable mobile-only option tailored for Southeast Asia, with the specific pricing varying by country and provider.

For some time now, HBO Go, an independent streaming service by WBD, has been operational in certain regions of East Asia. However, the introduction of Max will replace this platform, providing advanced technology and a more extensive collection of content.

JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming & games at WBD, expressed excitement about making Max available to more consumers across Asia. He highlighted that Max offers an unmatched collection of top-tier content from renowned brands such as HBO, Discovery, DC Universe, Harry Potter, AFN, and Cartoon Network, in addition to popular Hollywood movies, all under one roof.

After being introduced in North America, Latin America, Europe, and most recently Southeast Asia, Max’s service is now available in a total of 72 markets worldwide. The Asia-Pacific region remains the last significant area where the service has not been fully utilized yet. Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) plans to expand the service further into Asia by 2025.

Speaking about it, James Gibbons, WBD’s APAC president, mentioned: “Warner Bros. Discovery has always been enthralling fans in the Asia Pacific region with content that shapes culture from its strong brands. For the first time, this captivating programming will be offered through a fresh streaming app designed for our regional audience. Max combines an extensive variety and depth, along with an exceptional viewing experience.

At the APOS media conference held in Bali, Indonesia last September, I (as a fan) had the pleasure of witnessing Michael Gibbons hint at Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming plans for Southeast Asia. During his keynote address, he shared his vision for the region’s rollout and subtly suggested that Australian viewers can anticipate the arrival of Max in the first half of 2025.
