Was 9-1-1’s Buck Telling The Truth When He Said He Didn’t Have Feelings For Eddie? Here’s What Oliver Stark Thinks

Warning: If you haven’t seen Season 8, Episode 11 of “9-1-1” on ABC or if you don’t have a Hulu subscription yet, some details might be spoiled ahead.

Ever since Season 2, the popular series “9-1-1” has been subtly building tension between characters Buck and Eddie that has left fans eagerly waiting: this slow-burning romantic development has even caught the attention of “Pop Culture Jeopardy!”. However, with Eddie relocating to Texas, it seems their relationship may never come to fruition. This turn of events is particularly difficult for Buck, who recently had a heart-to-heart conversation with his sister and ex about his feelings for Eddie, yet insisted he was not harboring any romantic sentiments. Now, lead actor Oliver Stark weighs in on the authenticity of Buck’s declarations.

In the recently announced TV episode titled “Holy Mother of God,” due in 2025, we find Buck struggling to rest comfortably at the house following his assumption of Eddie’s lease. It isn’t until he spends the night with Tommy that he feels at ease. Tommy suggests they rekindle their relationship now that “the competition” – a reference to Buck’s feelings for Eddie – is no longer present. However, Buck flatly denies this during both instances, explaining that Eddie identifies as straight.

The question on everyone’s mind is this: Was Buck truly sincere in what he said? In an interview with TV Insider, Stark hinted that while Buck’s words may have been truthful, there could be hidden layers to his statements. To quote him directly, “Buck’s words were indeed honest, but there might be something deeper underlying it all.

In that instant, he’s genuinely expressing what he believes to be true, without a doubt. It seems to me that he isn’t intentionally deceiving Maddie. This idea had never crossed his mind before. At the moment, he’s being honest, and it’s something entirely new to him, as it was prompted by Tommy and wasn’t something he’d given any thought to previously.

Buck was taken aback when Tommy playfully mentioned Eddie, so it wasn’t entirely unexpected that he swiftly denied any connection, as this might have been the first time such a thought had crossed his mind (he was on his own, after all). It’s plausible that this entire incident could serve as the spark that eventually leads him to ponder the idea more. Unless he firmly opposes it, given that Eddie is in Texas at present.

As a movie reviewer, I must admit that when I first started watching “Buck,” the show’s latest addition last season, I wasn’t quite sure where this character was heading. His relationship with Tommy didn’t exactly end on a high note, and it left me wondering how the series would navigate their past and perhaps even explore Buck’s feelings for Eddie.

However, given that Eddie is set to rejoin the 118, I can’t help but feel that this storyline might be unfolding sooner rather than later. It’s an intriguing plot twist that has left me eagerly awaiting the next season to see how it all plays out!

For nearly seven years, fans have eagerly anticipated the romantic pairing of Buddie on the unpredictable show. At times, it seems as though the creative team shares this enthusiasm, hinted by their portrayal of Buddie’s potential parents or flirtatious comments during a live stream rescue. Despite ABC not yet confirming a Season 8 renewal, there are strong indications that it will happen, especially with the upcoming Nashville spinoff. This could pave the way for more opportunities to explore Buddie’s relationship dynamics, if not full-blown romance, then certainly for Buck to contemplate his feelings for Eddie.

It remains uncertain what lies ahead for Buck, but eager fans will simply have to stay tuned to find out. They’ve been anticipating developments between him and Eddie since Season 2, so a bit more patience won’t hurt. Catch new episodes of 9-1-1 every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, or stream them the following day on Hulu.
