As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast who’s spent countless nights huddled under blankets during marathons of Amnesia and Outlast, I must say that the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming film, Presence, has sent chills down my spine. The unique perspective of the haunting entity is a fresh take on the genre, and the glimpse into the family’s vulnerable moments adds an unsettling layer of realism.
Neon has debuted the first trailer for Steven Soderbergh‘s upcoming horror film, Presence.
The title “The Haunting” offers a chilling viewpoint from the ghost that terrorizes a recently relocated suburban family in their new home. The latest trailer exudes an unsettling atmosphere, making viewers privy to the family’s most exposed and fragile moments. It is evident that the family senses the haunting unfolding around them.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, and Julia Fox make up the stellar cast for this upcoming project. Julie M. Anderson and Ken Meyers are on board as producers, while David Koepp, who previously collaborated with the filmmaker on Kimi, returns as the writer.
At the Sundance Film Festival 2024, the movie was warmly received with numerous positive reviews. Later on, it was bought by Neon for a whopping $5 million USD.
In an earlier conversation with Variety, Soderbergh expressed his desire to present the story from a fresh perspective. He explained, “The narrative unfolds by offering glimpses into this family that the mysterious presence observes. The ghostly aspect serves as a disguise, enabling us to depict a group of people on the verge of disintegration.
Watch the trailer above. Presence hits theaters January 24, 2025.
