Watching Watson Has Really Made Me Miss CBS’ Elementary, So Of Course I Was Intrigued When Someone Asked Lucy Liu About A Revival

From my childhood, I’ve held a deep affection for Sherlock Holmes. Whenever there’s a fresh take on Holmes in films or TV, I find myself eagerly awaiting its release. Recently, this has led me to tune into the latest iteration of Sherlock Holmes, “Watson,” airing on CBS. Although I had initial reservations following the first episode, the series has been engaging enough. It’s even sparked some intriguing thoughts about another modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes that used to be aired on CBS, titled “Elementary.

In the current trend of Sherlock Holmes reinterpretations set in contemporary times, the show Elementary may not be as widely watched as the Sherlock series featuring Benedict Cumberbatch. Yet, if I had to choose which one I’d prefer to see a new season of, it would be the one starring Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Joan Watson.

Now, with that in mind, my interest was very piqued when Lucy Liu was asked about a revival…

Elementary Was One Of The Best Modern Sherlock Holmes Adaptations

In many aspects, “Elementary” stood out as the top contemporary adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. This TV series essentially followed a crime-solving format, where Holmes and Watson worked alongside the police to solve a new case each episode. Given that most of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original works were short stories, this week-by-week story structure proved to be a fitting adaptation.

I’ve always found Sherlock Holmes to be an early embodiment of the character type often seen in TV shows: the “consultant who isn’t a cop, but assists law enforcement in solving crimes.” This archetype has captivated audiences for years, and it’s quite fascinating how it all ties together.

In some instances, the television series Elementary drew upon the original stories for its plotlines, but with a contemporary update. Characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s canon were frequently incorporated into the show as well, though typically in fresh and innovative ways. The series managed to stay true to its roots while carving out its own identity, and I must confess that I eagerly anticipate additional episodes.

What Lucy Liu Said About Reviving Elementary

Elementary”, a network TV series, spanned seven successful seasons and wrapped up in a satisfying manner. However, the ending hints at more adventures for Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as consulting detectives, implying a possible revival. Yet, Lucy Liu, who plays Watson, has never contemplated a return according to her latest interview with ScreenRant. Liu mentioned…

I find myself not dwelling on it since it seems we’ve reached a satisfying resolution. Thanks for joining me through the seven seasons of Elementary. It all seemed like a whirlwind, as with TV production, you’re constantly moving at a fast pace and never get to slow down.

Although Liu hasn’t thought about returning to “Elementary” yet, she hints that despite the confusion involved in making the show, she had a good time there. So, it’s possible she might consider it again. Meanwhile, she seems to be expressing her happiness that the legacy of Sherlock Holmes, often referred to as Watson, continues…

It was truly a pleasure collaborating with Rob Doherty, the mastermind behind this captivating series and its intriguing characters. I can’t say for sure if more adaptations would have been possible, but it’s heartening to see Holmes spinoffs still thriving. It’s clear that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle hit a nerve, and his genius lives on through the continuing legacy of these tales.

A resurgence of the series Elementary appears unlikely as long as it remains on its current network, Watson. However, surprises can happen – even shows that were thought to be finished have been brought back years later for a revival. It’s possible that such an event could occur with Elementary someday.
