As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia upon hearing about the passing of Wayne Northrop. Growing up in the golden age of soap operas, his characters were as much a part of my daily routine as leveling up in my favorite games. From solving mysteries alongside Detective Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives to navigating the turbulent world of Dynasty as Michael Culhane, Northrop’s performances left an indelible mark on the genre.
Actor Wayne Northrop, famously recognized for his roles in ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Dynasty’, has sadly passed away at the age of 77.
Northrop passed away last Friday at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, as confirmed by his publicist Cynthia Snyder to The Hollywood Reporter. Six years prior, he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
As I, a devoted admirer, put it, “I was fortunate enough to spend my final moments surrounded by the love of my family, as shared by my beloved wife and fellow performer, Lynn Herring Northrop. To The Motion Picture and Television Home, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care you provided. Wayne, with his infectious humor and keen wit, had a profound impact on countless lives. A devoted husband for 43 years, the best father one could ask for to Hank and Grady, and a passionate rancher who cherished his cows and formed deep connections with many.
Northrop showcased his versatility in acting across numerous episodes (over 1,000) on the soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” initially as Detective Roman Brady and subsequently as Dr. Alex North. On the drama series “Dynasty,” he portrayed Michael Culhane, the chauffeur for the wealthy oil magnate Blake Carrington. Lastly, in the daytime drama “Port Charles,” he brought to life the character Rex Stanton, a figure known for his manipulative tendencies.
Northrop was a prominent figure in daytime dramas during the 1980s and 1990s, and he also made appearances on shows like “L.A. Law,” “Hotel,” “You Are the Jury,” and “Cold Case.
Wayne Northrop hails from Sumner, Washington, born on the 12th of April, 1947, to Robert and Donna Jean Northrop. He obtained a degree in communications from the University of Washington and then honed his acting skills at Seattle Community College. Subsequently, he relocated to Los Angeles, following his dream of establishing a career in acting.
In May 1981, he tied the knot with his beloved wife, Lynn. Subsequently, they acquired a functioning cattle ranch in Raymond, California. Being ardent admirers of wildlife and conservation, they continue to manage the ranch while adhering to Northrop’s environmental values. In the year 2008, they also bought the most antique house in Raymond, which dates back to 1886, and transformed it into a museum that is now listed on the historical register.
Apart from his wife, Lynn, he also leaves behind his two boys, Hank and Grady, in addition to his stepmother, Janet Northrop. They will continue his legacy.
