We could actually be getting a Bully remake or remaster before GTA 6

As a seasoned gamer with memories of Bully etched deep into my gaming psyche, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and caution at the recent rating of Bully for various modern platforms. It’s been years since we last roamed the halls of Bullworth Academy, and while the Scholarship Edition was a welcome refresh, a full-fledged remake or remaster would be nothing short of a dream come true.

In the words of Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame, “Keep hope at bay.” Yet it’s important to remember that while Rockstar Games is famed for its Grand Theft Auto series, there’s much more to its impressive portfolio – from Manhunt to Red Dead Redemption.

One lesser-known classic game is Bully, which gives an idea of what Grand Theft Auto might be like if it were set in a school. It’s been almost two decades since the school bell rang at Bullworth Academy, yet we’ve only seen a console reissue and the Scholarship Edition on mobile devices in 2016. However, despite numerous rumors, a modern remake of this game has yet to materialize.

As an avid gamer, I can’t contain my excitement upon hearing the latest news: Bully is reportedly being rated by Taiwan for release on PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and PC! Naturally, this has set the gaming community abuzz with speculations about a potential modern remake or remaster. However, things might not be so straightforward.

Despite a new Xbox 360 rating, the website speculates that this might be a mistake, as both a PS2-emulated version of Bully (on PS4) and Bully: Scholarship Edition (playable on PC via Steam) are already available. Therefore, the meaning behind these ratings remains unclear.

According to Gematsu’s report, the game “Bully” can be downloaded by GTA+ Members starting from August 20th. Many fans are excited about this development, as they speculate it might lead to something bigger. Most are simply happy that Rockstar is acknowledging “Bully,” especially since it appeared plans for a sequel were abandoned.

1. Regarding the recent update, one enthusiast expressed, “Is this for real? Could Rockstar be working on Bully in 2024?” Another commented, “I sure hope it sells a ton. Perhaps we’ll finally see Bully 2 under those circumstances“, while a third quipped, “There’s no chance we get a Bully remaster/remake before GTA VI, right?

Initially, plans for Bully 2 (and possibly 3) were in development, but it appears that Rockstar’s dedication to the Grand Theft Auto series may have overshadowed these projects. However, there remains a strong desire for a sequel to Bully, with voice actor Gerry Rosenthal urging the developers to create one. A scenario where we receive a remastered version of Bully before GTA 6 seems unlikely, but not outright impossible.

We’re eager to witness a modernized Bull game on par with Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes; however, considering the amount of effort required, we’re skeptical that Rockstar is keen on taking it up at this moment. The excitement stirred by fans creating their own Unreal Engine 5 adaptations of Bully merely fuels our hopes, but for now, it appears Bull remains on summer break.
