Welcome to Necaxa.

On Wednesday, the FX network announced that “Welcome to Wrexham” will return for its fifth season, and they also shared updates about the upcoming spinoff series titled “Necaxa” (formerly known as “Bienvenidos a Necaxa“), which is a collaboration with Disney+ Latin America.

After taking ownership of Wrexham AFC in 2020, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s fifth season with the soccer club was a foregone conclusion. This season will highlight Wrexham’s upcoming debut in the EFL Championship following an impressive third straight promotion. The fourth season of Welcome to Wrexham is now airing new episodes every Thursday at 9 p.m. on FX, with episodes available for streaming the next day on Hulu.

Eva Longoria is set to join forces with Reynolds and McElhenney in Club Necaxa, based in Aguascalientes, Mexico. This summer, FX will document a challenging yet transformative phase in the history of the esteemed Mexican football club, as well as the unwavering fans who continue to hold on to hope.

Rob and Ryan played a significant role in making Wrexham AFC one of the most remarkable sports tales of our era, and the events unfolding in Wrexham, Wales are nothing short of enchanting. Alongside Eva Longoria, they’re now joining forces to foster the wishes and aspirations of Necaxa fans and the Aguascalientes community too,” Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, expressed in a statement. “As we embark on this adventure with Necaxa, supported by Disney+ Latin America this summer, everyone is eager to witness their passion and commitment mirrored in Mexico, much like they’ve shown for the fifth season of ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ as the club readies itself for the Championship; a new phase in its captivating journey.

Here’s some more from FX about Necaxa:

Necaxa is an engaging bilingual documentary series that delves into a turbulent, transformative period, characterized by team reshuffles, career-defining accidents, and the indomitable spirit of a football team striving to outdo expectations and bring hope to Aguascalientes, Mexico. Previously a dominant force in Mexican football, Club Necaxa has spent years dealing with instability such as relocations, relegation struggles, and continuous reinvention. Although its reputation has fluctuated in and out of the national limelight, a dedicated group of ardent fans remains hopeful, holding onto the dream that their cherished “Rayos” will one day regain their former glory.

Step onto the training field and peek inside the locker room with me as I join the passionate supporters of Club Necaxa – die-hard believers, hesitant skeptics, and everyone in between. Together, we’ll follow Los Rayos as they chase their dream of making it to the playoffs, hoping that the lightning will strike twice for them. This series paints a vivid picture of faith, resilience, and the unyielding power of hope.
