You can check out the newly released trailer for What If…? Season 3 below.

The initial run of “What If…?” debuted in 2021 and delves into alternate realities scattered throughout the multiverse, where significant events from the Marvel Cinematic Universe unfold differently under the watchful gaze of the Watcher, a non-interfering member of an extraterrestrial race who monitors the multiverse. Developed by A.C. Bradley for streaming platform Disney+ and inspired by the comic book series with the same title, “What If…?” offers a fresh take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reinventing famous cinematic moments in surprising ways. This marks Marvel Studios’ first foray into animation, as it explores various heroes from the MCU, boasting an ensemble voice cast of familiar faces.

The upcoming series will feature Jeffrey Wright reprising his role as the Watcher, delving deeper into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse. This series has played a significant part in the franchise’s Multiverse Storyline, offering glimpses of alternate realities featuring different character variations and occurrences. In Season 3, we can expect the introduction of characters like Iron Heart, Shang-Chi, Monica Rambeau, Moon Knight, White Vision, and others.

In Season 3 of “What If…?”, one of The X-Men’s most recognized characters, Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm, is expected to make her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Not only will Storm be involved in the multiverse-related antics, thereby further incorporating the X-Men into the MCU, but she will also demonstrate her worthiness by taking control of Mjölnir, Thor’s magical hammer.

The upcoming live-action movies titled “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” mark the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Season 3 of “What If…?” will serve as the final installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, wrapping up the Watcher’s narrative and story arc. As previously announced by Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming at Marvel Studios:

The final season seems to wrap up a trilogy-like arc. It delves deeper into the multiverse than the first two seasons, introduces some surprising characters, and concludes, in my opinion, with a deeply emotional and satisfying resolution for the Watcher.

In contrast, Bryan Andrews, the director of “What If…?”, has pledged that the concluding part will make some bold moves.

“We can take big swings. The wilder What If…? got, it seems the more the audience responds. He said to expect “some Western stuff going on, some stompy robot stuff going on…”
