As a long-time fan of the Shrek franchise, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming “Shrek 5.” The series has always held a special place in my heart, with its witty humor and unique take on classic fairy tales. But with no official plotline revealed yet, my imagination is running wild!
As a longtime fan of the Shrek franchise, I’m thrilled to hear that “Shrek 5” is officially in production! Ever since the first movie came out, I’ve been hooked on the adventures of everyone’s favorite ogre. With each new installment, I eagerly anticipated what new twists and turns the story would take.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve come across various intriguing ideas for the Shrek franchise’s potential directions. Some proposals resonated deeply with me, such as exploring Shrek’s family background or delving into ogre society. Yet, there are fans who prefer bolder choices.
u/OpthomasPrime2020 suggested a plot in which Shrek meets another ogre, only for him to deal with betrayal when they reject his offer of friendship and turn out to be a villain. That would result in the character having to grapple with prejudice once more, a recurring theme in the “Shrek” series. A second Redditor, u/The_last_Comrade, came up with a plot that would revisit a grim plotline from the first “Shrek” — the trafficking of fairytale characters. u/NFHDonReddit and u/VygotskyCultist both suggested plots where Shrek has to deal with his triplets’ human heritage or just plain cope with the fact that they’re all getting older. But those are just the tamer ideas fans came up with.
Maury, tax evasion, and Spider-Man, oh my!
Fans came up with various creative ideas based on the given theme. For instance, u/Dave_FortniteATX proposed a humorous scenario where Shrek, Fiona, and Lord Farquaad appear on “Maury” to unveil the truth about paternity. u/tristinaaron suggested an unusual visit to Alice’s Wonderland with a dark twist, revealing it as a cult that they need to escape from. Another fan imagined a parody of “The Avengers,” where Shrek and his friends team up with Spider-Man. Yet another user wrote an operatic parody of “The Wolf of Wall Street,” showcasing Shrek’s downfall while speculating in the onion market. Lastly, u/CovfefeBoss paid homage to “Futurama” by introducing a new threat to Far Far Away: death by boredom.
In an unexpected turn of events, numerous Reddit users proposed storylines involving Fiona and Shrek’s divorce or Shrek leaving Fiona for Donkey (Eddie Murphy). A large number of inappropriate suggestions were also made by users that it’s safer to keep imaginal. The writers of the upcoming family-friendly “Shrek 5,” scheduled for release on July 1, 2026, have yet to reveal which direction they will take the characters’ lives.
