As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the rich narratives of various worlds, I can say with confidence that the anticipation for new seasons of Bridgerton is on par with waiting for the next epic quest or level-up in my favorite game. The wait between seasons might seem like an eternity, but it’s a small price to pay for the captivating storytelling and breathtaking performances that Bridgerton consistently delivers.
Bridgerton maintains its position as one of Netflix’s top series, despite a two-year gap between seasons causing anticipation. Though we might have to wait for Benedict’s love story in Season 4, attention is shifting towards Luke Thompson and his co-star, Yerin Ha. Intriguingly, the actress playing Lady Whistledown, Shannon Beer (Shopie), shares more about her role in this popular regency romance, making us even more excited!
Following the confirmation that Benedict would star in Season 4, news broke about Ha being cast as Sophie, a character from “An Offer From a Gentleman” who is also Benedict’s love interest from Book 3. This is a significant role given the popularity of the character among readers, similar to other roles within the series. Despite the undeniable pressure associated with such fame, Ha expressed nothing but joy when she landed the part as Sophie. In an interview with Shondaland, she revealed her genuine reaction upon receiving the offer to play Sophie, and it’s quite fitting:
When I secured the part, I was having breakfast with my mother at a café in Seoul, and as I stepped out, it turned out to be quite amusing because she seemed to sense instinctively that I had been offered the role, as I leapt around the streets of Gangnam.
It’s even more thrilling to learn that Ha discovered she landed the role while out in public with her mom. Not only was it for a significant part in a highly popular Netflix show, but it’s also based on a famous book series. I can only imagine the exhilaration she must have felt.
Continuing with her story, Ha recalled how her mother reacted and just how special that moment was:
Upon receiving a call, I found myself at her side, tears streaming down her face. Afterwards, she seemed troubled, muttering about discomfort possibly related to indigestion. With understanding, we chose to end our outing and return home. Sharing such intimate moments with her was truly moving.
As an Aussie-Korean gamer, stepping into the shoes of the first-ever Korean lead on Bridgerton is quite the momentous occasion for me, Yerin Ha. It’s not every day that you get to embody an iconic character and share that experience with your mom. And let me tell you, it feels even more extraordinary when the show is set in a time period that isn’t exactly known for its diversity.
Although filming for Bridgerton Season 4 has started, viewers must be patient as they won’t get to watch Benedict pursuing Sophie until at least 2026. Showrunner Jess Brownell revealed that while they aim to release seasons quicker, the two-year gap is still in place for now. However, I’m confident that the wait will prove rewarding since I believe Ha and Thompson will make a fantastic pair on screen.
Although Ha may not portray Sophie in upcoming episodes right away, expect Netflix to provide glimpses behind the scenes, such as photos, videos, and trailers from the new season. Until then, immerse yourself in Benedict and Sophie’s tale by streaming the first three seasons of Bridgerton with a Netflix membership.
