What to Expect From Benedict’s ‘Bridgerton’ Season

As a devoted fan of Bridgerton, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that Luke Thompson will be bringing Benedict Bridgerton to life in season four! The intrigue and anticipation surrounding this beloved character’s romantic journey is palpable.

I was buzzing with excitement among my fellow fans this morning as we all eagerly exchanged news – Luke Thompson has been cast as the star of Bridgerton’s upcoming season four!

In the upcoming season of Bridgerton, Netflix announced that the second oldest Bridgerton sibling will be seeking a spouse. This comes after the romantic tale between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) in season three.

As a devoted fan, I’d describe it this way: In the fourth season, the story shifts its spotlight towards Benedict, the free-spirited second Bridgerton brother. Despite having elder and younger brothers who have found bliss in marriage, Benedict remains reluctant to follow suit. Yet, everything alters when he encounters a captivating Lady in Silver at Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade ball. Anthony and Colin, his proud brothers, can hardly contain their excitement over this new development.

In Julia Quinn’s third novel, “An Offer from a Gentleman” by Julia Quinn, Sophie Beckett experiences a transformative evening at the masquerade ball, escaping her servant role under the cruel hand of her stepmother. Amidst the grandeur and mystery of the event, she encounters Benedict, who makes her feel like a queen. However, their magical moment is limited to the stroke of midnight.

Since that enchanted evening, a dazzling vision in silver has prevented Benedict from seeing the appeal of any other woman – except for this intriguing and strangely familiar maidservant. He is determined to locate and marry his unknown beloved, but this captivating maid leaves him yearning for her. If he gives his heart to her, however, will Benedict relinquish his opportunity for a fairy tale romance?

In the upcoming fourth season, Benedict takes center stage, but there’s no shortage of romance for his siblings. Colin and Penelope have recently welcomed their newborn; Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and John Stirling (Victor Alli) are embarking on a new life together in Scotland; Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony have traveled to India to start their family; and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) have likely had at least one child by now. Additionally, Violet and Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis) hinted at a budding relationship in the previous season.

In the previous episode, Benedict discovered a fresh expression of his sexuality through his relationships with Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New) and Paul (Lucas Aurelio). According to showrunner Jess Brownell in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, these relationships allowed Benedict to embrace his true self while remaining actively engaged in society.

I once had a chat with Brownell, and he shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Benedict’s sexual identity wasn’t set in stone for him. In today’s world, people might label him as pansexual, which was something we discussed since the beginning of season one.

She expressed her belief that the character of he is more focused on building connections than on gender issues. In a broader sense, the three-person relationship or “throuple” storyline for Benedict in “Bridgerton” season three serves as a means for him to accept and express his true self, much like Penelope and Colin do in discovering their own identities. Benedict has always been an atypical character who prefers living apart from societal norms in terms of comfort.

Regarding Benedict’s role in season four of “Bridgerton,” Brownell hinted that they will allow his character more room to develop and explore how he fits into this world. One scene, in particular, left a strong impact on Benedict himself.

Towards the end of the season, Benedict shares with Tilley his preference for avoiding serious commitments. In response, Tilley, in a profound manner, expresses her understanding, “That’s understandable, but it was lovely to have something meaningful to care about once in a while.” Although Benedict has had a wealth of experiences, he’s never fully committed to anything. As the series progresses, we will explore Benedict’s growing recognition that he yearns for more than just breadth in life.

No release date has been announced yet for “Bridgerton” season four. At the London premiere for season three’s second part, Brownell hinted that fans might need to wait around two more years before watching season four on the streaming service.)

“She mentioned that we’re making an effort to release the seasons more frequently, but filming takes eight months and afterwards, there’s editing and dubbing into various languages. Adding to that, the writing process is time-consuming as well. So, we’re on a two-year production cycle, striving to accelerate, yet still within that timeframe.”
