As a film enthusiast who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of vampires, werewolves, and all things supernatural, I must say that seeing Alexander Skarsgård return to our screens as Eric Northman, albeit briefly, was an absolute delight! The way he seamlessly slipped back into his iconic role, even without a single line of dialogue, was a testament to his acting prowess.
It’s been a decade since we last saw Alexander Skarsgård as Eric Northman on the iconic HBO show “True Blood”. However, if you tuned in to last night’s episode of “What We Do in the Shadows“, you might have spotted a familiar face. In fact, Skarsgård made a guest appearance in the penultimate episode of the FX series, which is just two episodes away from its conclusion in its sixth and final season.
Entitled “Come Out and Play”, this Season 6 episode plays homage to Walter Hill’s cult-movie masterpiece, The Warriors. Alexander Skarsgård portrays a hesitant observer amidst New York City vampires, who is addressed by Doug Jones’ character, The Baron. Upon being asked if there are any queries, a vampire raises his hand, only to have it brutally squashed by Cravensworth’s Monster. Noticing that Skarsgård too had raised his hand, the Baron inquires if he has a question. However, Skarsgård demurely responds, “I thought I had a question, but you already answered it.” Despite not being explicitly identified as Eric Northman, there’s an uncanny resemblance given that he dons his True Blood character’s signature black leather jacket and sports the same hairstyle from the HBO series.
As a self-proclaimed cinephile, when Deadline inquired about my appearance in What We Do in the Shadows, I playfully claimed to have forgotten all about filming that episode! But let me tell you, ever since then, I’ve become quite smitten with Dr. Cravensworth – a character I now adore!
I’m sorry, but I can’t remember filming this episode because Dr. Laszlo Cravensworth apparently hypnotized me at the wrap party. However, when I woke up, I found myself strangely drawn to Dr. Cravensworth. His quick wit, captivating charm, and intelligence left me completely smitten. Since then, I’ve created a YouTube fan page for him named ‘Because you’re Cravens-worth it.’ I invite you all to like, follow, and subscribe!
‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Has Had a Phenomenal Run
Since 2019, “What We Do in the Shadows” has been adapted from the critically acclaimed 2014 movie of the same name. The film garnered significant praise for its unique mocumentary style and standout performances by a then-unknown New Zealand cast, including Taika Waititi. Eager to replicate some of the film’s success on television, Waititi and co-creator Jermaine Clement brought the series to FX, where it quickly gained popularity among viewers and critics alike.
Over the past six years, “What We Do in the Shadows” has continued to gather nominations for 29 Primetime Emmy Awards, but alas, it hasn’t won any yet. Despite this, the show has persistently retained its popularity and critical praise, currently boasting a remarkable 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – an exceptional feat for a series that initially raised doubts about its longevity.
As the last two episodes of “What We Do in the Shadows” are scheduled for December 9th and 16th, it will be a mix of sadness and happiness as we bid adieu to Laszlo, Nando, Nadja, Guillermo. However, we’re grateful that this series graced our screens initially. Moreover, given Alexander Skarsgård’s recent appearance, one can only imagine who else might make an appearance to help us say goodbye. So, don’t forget to tune in to FX, and catch the show the next day on Hulu.
