A touching example of his generosity was when he presented Chhaya Mohite, a trailblazing female auto rickshaw driver from Mumbai, with a heartfelt gift of Rs 10,000 after a two-month long effort by his team to secure an interview with her. This gesture highlighted Akshay’s admiration for Chhaya’s inspiring work and determination.
Akshay Kumar came across a compelling video featuring Chhaya Mohite and was immediately captivated by her narrative. Realizing her significance as one of Mumbai’s trailblazing female auto rickshaw drivers, he developed a strong urge to reach out to her. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Chhaya disclosed that Akshay’s team spent two months locating her using only her name and photograph as clues.
They went to great extents, stopping at multiple RTO offices in their search for her. Akshay’s aide contacted Chhaya regularly for an interview, without revealing the star’s true identity. By that time, Chhaya was accustomed to media scrutiny, as journalists often dropped by her house to chronicle her life as a homemaker and rickshaw driver.
Chhaya revealed that some people suggested she should start getting paid for interviews, but she had no interest in capitalizing on the attention. Despite her husband’s reservations about another interview, she decided to proceed. Following a long day of recording, she was told to head to a hotel, and there, an unforeseen surprise was in store for her. “I pulled over my rickshaw immediately,” she reminisced, still amazed by the encounter, “Akshay Kumar was in my vehicle!
Chhaya shared warmly the instance when Akshay inquired about her income. Afterward, she took him for a drive through Juhu and let him off at his home. She expressed, “I told him how much I earn, and then gave him a ride around Juhu before dropping him at his place.
After thinking about it, she shared her gratitude, pointing out that Akshay had extended an invitation for her and her family, including children, to visit him whenever they wished. In her own words, “Akshay said I could come over any time with my kids.” Sadly, she never got another chance to meet him again. She also mentioned that the generous donation of Rs 10,000 from Akshay Kumar helped her significantly financially.
At present, Akshay Kumar is working on his upcoming comedy movie, Housefull 5, overseas with the team. This production, helmed by Tarun Mansukhani, is scheduled to debut in June 2025. The Housefull series originated in 2010 with its first installment directed by Sajid Khan, and the second film followed in 2012. Sajid-Farhad took charge for the third part which was screened in 2016, while the fourth movie from the franchise, Housefull 4, was released in 2019.
